Funny scene in the gun store today...

Early our recent hunting season, I was approached by man with digital camera. Asked if I was a hunter. (Ammo piled on register counter being boughten and paid for)

I thought about it and said. Nay, just home defense hunting the two legged prey.

He pales and backs 4 steps and thinks about it for a moment and then wishes me a good day, moving on to the next person who was wearing suitable cammy hunting type gear.

At the time I didnt think it particularly funny, but thinking back on it I can imagine how much I scared the poor fella with a off hand answer.

interesting thing happened today at the gun store.

Ok, so I walk into my favorite gun store today to tell the owner that I just bought a mosin rifle off of gun broker and that I needed him to fax his FFL number to the seller.

So, here I am with time to spare and see a Windicator 357...now I have been looking for a 357 and have decided to get a ruger sp101 in 357, but the price on this gun was 299.00. I asked to look at the gun and was handed it. I pointed the gun up towards the ceiling to get an idea about the trigger pull in SA and DA. I look down the counter and see a gentlemen standing about 10 feet to my left. I take the revolver and spin around...with the pointing to the floor. Point the gun at the back wall and squeeze the trigger in DA. About a 15lb trigger pull I think...turn back to the attendant and have the revolver resting in my hand with the barrel of the pistol pointing to the left with my left hand covering the barrel. My mistake was that when I had the weapon laying in my hands (with my left hand covering the barrel) my finger was resting on the trigger.

Well the individual standing to my left started ducking and walked quickly to the rear of the store. I looked at him and he kindof yelled at me saying that he didn't like guns being pointed at him. I calmly told him I never pointed the weapon at him and in fact I was holding the gun with my hand covering the barrel. He replied back that he was an NRA gun trainer and that I should never cover anyone I was not willing to shoot. I just looked at him, to the owner and then back at him. I told him and he saw me check the weapon before I looked at it, the clerk cleared the weapon and there wasn't any rounds on the counter. I apologized to him and he proceded to talk about weapon awareness...I looked back at him and told him "I did not cover him, the weapon was unloaded and I had it in a safe position." I then also told him that there was no way he was being shot with an unloaded weapon. He replied to me again that he was a gun instructor with the NRA and I should be more careful. I looked at him...told him whatever and turned my back on him to continue my conversation with the clerk.

The gentlemen stormed out about 30 later and I turned to everyone and asked them if I had done anything wrong? Did I cover him with the weapon and did everyone see that I had cleared the weapon first? They all were watching our conversation and said I had done nothing wrong. BTW...the clerk is also a gun safety instructor with the NRA and said you just can't please everyone.

That’s all I can do, I cant even tell you how I feel about the woman, Nancy Pelosi would be jumping up and down, except the police officer had 2 guns(They only need 1, everybody knows that)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am far more worried about the Local LEOs gun handling then the publics..

As I'm sure many here will agree, it doesn't matter if you cleared it first. Never point a weapon at anything you're not prepared to destroy, including the customers. Treat all guns as if they were loaded. So, yes, if the muzzle did sweep him he has a legitimate beef. That said, I get covered by customers at Gander Mountain all the time.

I then also told him that there was no way he was being shot with an unloaded weapon.

You'd be surprised how many people are killed with "unloaded" weapons.

Unless you hand will stop a round in its tracks, this doesn't make anyone feel any better about it being pointed in their direction.

Just sayin'...

I had a fella pull a compound bow from a floor rack and draw with me in the line of fire. He was aiming at the floor and nothing in the bow. I liked to jumped "Yea high" and he knew he did wrong and apologized, spinning to draw again into a corner of the room.

It was crazy because his actions were just in the corner of my vision and sure as hell looked hostile to me and had me reaching for a holster that was not on my belt at the time. (Thank goodness....) it's just instinctive.

I like to go to quiet gun shops these days, less jumpy. Maybe the nice doc give good med to ease the visit yes?

What was she doing in a gun store?

Considering how upset she became at the mere sight of a firearm, it's possible that she had a very, very bad memory involving a gun.

OR, she had outstanding warrants and was more afraid of his badge than his weapon.

Whoever said the thing about, "blaming TV..."

Yea, that pretty much sums up what I was about to say lol...+1

Yea a little enlightenment and education can fix the way some people think, but some people are just too arrogant and stubborn to learn about gun saftey...they see guns as an unstable explosive IED that will go off the second organic material makes contact with it...SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE THAT..and it's kind of sad really.

Oh, the irony. She was telling an on-duty, uniformed police officer carrying a loaded, holstered firearm on his hip to be careful with the empty gun in his hand. I wonder if she goes around and tells all cops to be careful? We all got a good laugh out of that one...maybe she thought he would drop it and scratch the finish?

My real passion isn't firearms, but motorcycles. I ride on the street, and also ride and race offroad. My mother is a bit like the above woman when it comes to my motorcycles. It's just an irrational and visceral fear on her part ... she views motorcycles as instruments of death.

My wife worries too, but just keeps the life insurance paid.

I work in an ER and we always wear trauma scizzors on our belts.
One day I actually got chewed out because a patient saw us running to an emergency and she was upset that we were (not kidding) "Running with scizzors!"

I thought you could have firearms shipped back to you directly if they were sent out for repair?

In some jurisdictions that's illegal, and even in those jurisdictions where it's legal, it's usually cheaper to go through an FFL because FFLs can use regular first class mail instead of having to overnight it via UPS or FedEx.

"Hey I had people shaking in their boots the last time I bought an AX! The Lowe's guy had to carry it out of the store for me (as if that wasn't weird enough) and people stared at me like I was about to screm, "Here's Johnny" at any second."

I stopped off at a Walmart to buy my son a .22 rifle for his birthday years ago. I was wearing my LE uniform and duty rig. They still escorted me out with the rifle. At least the guy said, "This really is pretty ridiculous, isn't it?"

But to take the cake, I used to fly frequently to pick up prisoners for extradition and was doing the dog and pony show at check in. Near the end after all the paperwork had been confirmed etc. the gal at the counter asked me, "Do you have sharp objects on you?" I said, "Ma'am, what part of, "I'm an armed peace officer." is it that you don't understand? She said, "Oh, we have to ask everybody that." I said, "Well, in that case, No, all of these bullets are hollowpoints and there's not a sharp edge on any of them." she said, "OK, good, have a nice flight."
