I'm sure many of you enjoy (as I do) watching 'FutureWeapons' on the Military Channel. The host is a former 10-year Navy Seal who gets PAID to travel the world and feature (and test) new weapon systems.

Every week my son & I enjoy the show (Tuesdays) and often exclaim "I've GOT to get me one of THOSE". If you haven't yet seen the show, it's a 'keeper' and is up there on my Must See list every week.

Although he is a little 'full of himself', I DO INDEED enjoy seeing all the new technology, etc. We've got some neat stuff in use and coming down the pipeline.

I, for one, have learned a lot from watching FutureWeapons.

Has anyone, for example, noticed that all new weapons systems are introduced by the host as being the deadliest new innovation on the battlefield since the pointed stick?

Now, many people would find this as evidence of rampant hyperbole in the script, but since this show employs on sight testing and on camera demonstration, any exaggerations would obviously be exposed as such within minutes.

Therefore, we are left to conclude that all new weapons systems in the future are the deadliest. Indeed, all futuristic weapons have hit a fundamental limit on deadliness; an asymptotic wall in their lethality. All wars in the future will be fought, therefore, with diverse weapons systems of exactly the same lethality, and that lethality will be very high.

The one I saw on Sunday had a full auto shotgun and a new .45 machine gun. Both with a new recoil systems that tame the recoil quite a bit. Looked pretty cool. Doubt I'll ever own one but cool none the less.

I enjoy seeing the new weapons, but why is he whispering?

Because he's a melodramatic nitwit.
However, I enjoy watching the new stuff get trotted out.

Anyone watch the show on the auto-shotgun? It has a FTE during one of his last strings of fire. They cutaway pretty quick, but you can see it clearly not ejecting the spent cartridge.

They should use Adam or Jamie from Mythbusters for that show.

Loved the full-auto shotgun.

He needs to do show on the new belt-fed shotgun, fires 3.5" 12 gauge at 1200rpm. That would put a dent in something.

Because he's a melodramatic nitwit.

hahaha

Sure, some of are jealous... Who WOULDNT want to go around and see the most lethal arsenals in the world and then get the privelage to try em out?

Lucky SOB got to drive the M270 MLRS...

They had a new semi-auto .50 cal from Accuracy International. It was awesome. Very accurate, soft recoil. Fired like 5 rounds in 30 seconds or a minute....can't remember which.

If it's as recoilless as they say, watch out Barrett.

I too like the show very much. This is what I don't under stand. This last show for instances. 50 caliber British rifle. Is really any better than the USA one now in use? I loved that small shoulder rocket. If it is really that good why , or maybe it is , isn't being using over there now. Shouldn't every Squad have one or two. Why isn't the predator drone. covering our troupes 24/7. Maybe 3 or 5 flying over Baghdad 24/7. If you receive incoming, you drop a small 250 lb guided bomb that they have shown on that show. It would have to be done in minutes after receiving the incoming. Or else the press would say we target civilians.
Or at least, after the fire fight is over. Clear the place of people and level it so that there is no next time from that location.

Yes yes I know over oversimplification. But Damn do more with these modern weapons

I enjoy the show as well, but those who have said the whispering thing is a bit over the top are correct, it is. Also I loved the Kriss .45 (new .45 ACP sub-machine gun) it looks like a neat firearm. What most of us need to realize is that it's pretty much a big commercial for military contractors and arms dealers. Most of the people shown on the show are contractors who are currently trying to sell their product to the US Military (or any other government with enough $$$). Many of the episodes show them using the equipment on military bases with military personal. If you look at their shoulder patches though you see they are in testing commands, that basically will go out and look at the contractors/manufacturers goods. I know this because I was involved with it often during my military service. This is the same reason why every weapon on the show is "the best weapon on Earth". It's the same gun magazine mentality. While some are real and already in use, most are just hoping to be. But like I said still fun to watch even if it is a big commercial!

PercyShelley wins the thread.

My thoughts exactly.

My main beef with the show, aside from the .308 being the standard round of the AK-47 and the overall pretentiousness of the host, is that most of the weapons shown aren't "future weapons" at all - they're current generation that's already being fielded. Yes, I'm sure they'll continue to be used in the future, but so will the M-14 and I certainly wouldn't call that a future weapon.

That said, I did like seeing the demo of the AT4-CS. Being able to fire from cover without killing yourself and your buddies is a good thing.

I lost respect for the dude on the episode where he was looking at the Barret and was comparing it to other military calibers. "This is the .308...standard round for the AK-47" or something to that effect. He held up a 7.62x39 round.

ETA: Damn Lucky beat me to it.

I've grown to hate that show because of the BS the hosts talks about time to time,.................
EVEN THE 9 MILLIMETER!!!!!!!!!

:D :neener:

Personally I believe he uses a lot of dramatic license in his dialog to showcase a weapon. It is all about showmanship and making the sale. I believe this show is created by the defense industry to showcase new weapon systems to interested parties.
Here is a little tidbit from his Wiki file. "He is currently training to become a Zen Buddhist priest." This guy is too much. What a riot.

Because what he is telling you is so secret they don't want it to get out.

Anyways I like the weapon system demonstrations, but I hate the writing.

far too much drama, and "When we come back..."
Just **** and trot out the fancy weapons.

I love the show, but my concern is:

WHEN WILL OUR TROOPS GET THEIR HANDS ON THE NICE TOYS????!!!!

I know most are in prototype/production period, but man...let's win battles already!!!

I cringed when he referred to the Accuracy International .50 cal as an "assault rifle".

But I enjoy the show anyway. Cool military toys and stuff blowing up. What's not to like?

He is making money talking about weapons and testing them out.. His job is something I could only dream of ..
