FYI: About AR-15s, from the NSSF

Well, the NSSF does have a point, the civilian market tends to follow the U.S. military. Lever action rifles were designed for the military back in the Civil War (there was an article on them in National Rifleman just recently), bolt actions were designed for the military and used by virtually every military in the world for decades, ditto on magazine fed semi-autos. (The VPC tries to define an assault weapon as anything designed for military/LE use, which is extremely dumb for the reason I just stated.)

But yeah, I've never tried to argue with an anti that my EBR is somehow "sporting". All you have to do is ask them since when do we ban things because we think you might commit a crime (under that logic we'd better bring back Prohibition)? That, and point out that more people are beaten to death using no weapon at all than are murdered using a rifle of any kind. More people are murdered with blunt objects than rifles also. Heck, more people are murdered with knives than with rifles and shotguns combined. (This works even better on Internet forums because you can link straight to the FBI crime stats.)

Then there's the link to the VPC's classic line:

Assault weaponsjust like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearmsare a new topic. The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weaponsanything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine guncan only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons.

And for the classic finish, there's always Carolyn McCarthy on MSNBC :D

By the way, I still don't get how she could possibly be so ignorant. I mean seriously, she's a U.S. Senator. She has aides, paid for with taxpayer money. She doesn't have to research anything for herself, her aides write the bill and brief her on it. I work a day job and have to do my own research in my off time. For her to not know what's in her own bill is just shameful. This is a big reason why I'm so cynical about politics and hold politicians in general in such disdain.

Maybe we should capitulate and paint all our EBRs green. Doing things green is the current politiclly correct way to go, isn't it?

I just had a brain storm. Politsilly = politically correct.
