I am waiting for my CPL, eventually I will get G26 but for now all I have is G17.

I was trying to walk around the house with it to see what kind of carry works best in concealability, comfort and ease of use / access. I have the cheap plastic Glock holster. It's actually not bad but the open barrel design isn't going to work for me.

So, after much experimentation, I think the IWB is out of question, at least not with the gun that size. What I found worked best for me was OWB on the strong side, at 3-4 o'clock, gun close to body (holster between the belt and jeans), slightly canted forward. I can comfortably sit with it and it hides well.

I don't want to spend a lot at this point - $50 tops. Would prefer a holster that's easy to take off without taking the belt off, covers the barrel, provides good retention, no prefs for material. Don't like the idea of SERPA. I never used a paddle holster so no idea how it feels; looks like a clip would be more comfortable.

I was looking at Safariland holsters, seems like they have several different designs that are moderately priced and could my criteria, any suggestions / alternatives ? Looks like either 6378 or 7379 could work (not sure if 7379 can be canted). Thanks !

Personally, I find IWB works for me with the G17. I use two holsters.
One is a simple Kydex IWB clip on. The other is a Galco Summer Comfort.
Glocks are popular guns. That means lots of good deals on holsters, both new and used.
Do a search on eBay...you will get pages of great holsters.

The cheap plastic Glock holster will grow on you, given half a chance, and an open mind.

There is nothing any lighter, or stronger, giving better retention that I have found in 15 years of looking.

No WOW factor when you show your friends.
As is fitting for all things Glock.
But, they flat out work very very well!

Safariland ....

Id highly suggest the new 7TS line from Safariland; www.safariland.com .
The holsters are around $45-50.00 USD, they are extremely durable, safe, secure & comes in black/FDE brown(Flat Dark Earth).
You can get the paddle or the belt loop style(my pick).
The 7TS holsters(in different sizes) fit both Glock 17 & the 26(9mm).
I want a left hand Glock 21 .45acp 7TS but I'm not sure if they came out yet.

PM me if you want some more choices or good brands. I don't want to spam this topic.

Take a look at the DeSantis Speed Scabbard. I have one for all the guns I carry on at regular basis. I carried a G17 daily for about 5-6 years In one. I prefer the one without the thumb break.

Thanks for all helpful replies !

I would prefer a clip holster that can be canted, doesn't expose the barrel, and provides a positive retention without a trigger guard button (seems unsafe) or a thumb break (I don't want an unnecessary extra step)

A belt loop holster would force me to take out and then reholster the loaded gun when entering gun free zones, I think it's much safer to take out the whole holster. Also, different pants have loops in different places making it harder to have a consistent location.

I am not sure how the paddle holster works, assuming the paddle goes in between the belt loops, wouldn't it have the same issue ?

So the Safariland holsters with clip and open top seem like the best fit - does anyone know if they can be easily canted (and would stay that way ) ?

Well, thanks to everyone, one more time.

It looks like Safariland 7379 meets all of my requirements so I just ordered it from MidWay for $36 delivered.

One characteristic of most good concealment holsters is a trailing loop, as found on your Glock sport holster. It is especially important for guns with a large, thick grip like the G17.

If you ever considered appendix carry I can't recommend the Keeper enough.
It's kinda hard driving family vehicle while standing up. I have picked up R9 and can't imagine anything whole lot larger. The S&W Shield would be my size limit. Have you considered buying smaller gun?

I can carry my 17 in a Jmkydex AIWB. Im 5'7" 155 lbs. The butt prints a little in a regular sized t shirt so I normally carry my 19.

I can comfortably sit down while carrying Glock Sports Holster at my right side, so driving shouldn't be an issue as long as it doesn't get in the way of the seatbelt.

Yes I am considering a smaller gun, most likely G26, however I do not plan on selling G17 and I would need a workable holster for it anyway.

My advice is to not make the mistake I did and cheap out on the holster. A Lobo horsehide IWB is the most comfortable IWB style holster I have ever used.

I carry my full-sized Glock 17 everyday in a Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe IWB hybrid leather/kydex holster and it's definitely the most comfortable holster I've had in 26+ years as an armed professional (LE/MIL).

The Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe has clips that allow you to remove it both quickly and easily.

I also carry my G17 and G19 in a Raven Concealment Systems Phantom OWB/IWB kydex holster.

Good choice!....

Great choice! ;)
I saw the same model on www.Galls.com for approx $34.00 USD.
Wear it around for a few months then please post a update.
Id like to know if the Safariland holster holds up to regular use & performs like the company says.

I know you already picked a holster, but I would second RC's suggestion and pick up a Glock Sport/Combat holster. They work great and conceal well. For the price, every Glock owner should have one.

From the OP's first post…
:)

I have one and a few issues with it... It leaves a good part of the slide and barrel exposed, which leads to scratches from jeans rivets (it's actually the rivets getting scratched and depositing some copper on the gun, but that stuff is very hard to clean off); if my shirt rides up and the barrel is exposed, it's pretty obvious what I have there while most people wouldn't recognize the end of the holster; I am concerned with front sight getting caught on clothing, especially when wearing sweaters; finally, because it has loops that the belt must be threaded through, the location of the holster is more or less dictates by where the belt loops on your pants are, and you can't take it off quickly without undoing your belt. There's an option of wearing it on a second belt cowboy style but I'd rather not go to that extreme to save $30 ;)

I do think that with a short G26 this holster would work much better as most of the problems with long exposed slide will go away.

I carry my similarly sized G36 in a N82 Pro holster. It has a clip adjustable for cant and a simple retention system that only requires you to twist the gun slightly when drawing. It has a large nylon and suede backing pad that protects you from being poked by the gun. It's a very comfortable set up for all day carry.

I see you ordered already... If you're ever in the market for a replacement give these guys a look tacticalcarrygroup.com

I have their OWB with the speed cut for my 34. It's nice, I carry daily. Comfortable too.

Well, I just got Safariland yesterday, and unfortunately it's going right back.

It's a great holster, sturdy, well made, with a very secure and easy to use retention system, fits G17 like a glove.

But whomever called it a "concealment" holster must've been smoking some really potent stuff. It'a about as far from a concealment holster as they get. It's large and it holds the gun away from body so the grip protrudes like SOB no matter what I try.

If I had a large property or lived somewhere a lot of people open carried, I'd keep it.

With Glock $14 holster, the gun is actually very easy to conceal. It holds the gun very close / tight to my love handles ;).

So I may just have to live with rivets rubbing on the muzzle. Looks like G26 would fully fit in it without exposing much.

Had you asked…

Well, imho the problem is with the way in which it holds the holster; otherwise no holster with a clip or a paddle would be possible to conceal, wouldn't it ?

Glock sports holster holds it so that the grip is very close to the body. Really slightly digs into my (now larger than it should be) frame.

This holster holds the grip away from the body.
