I am looking to get a Glock 21sf with the 13-round mags and picitanny rail. Does anyone have any experiece or insight to offer about this particular model? Thanks.

Shot one the sight picture seemed weird to me like looking at 3 tiny dots sitting on a brick. But it is a great gun just not for me.

The standard rail version will make life easier on holster issues, finding one to fit kydex wise, and wear leather wise.

FYI.

All Glock 21SF with picatinny rail have the ambi-mag release.

So, if you have older non-ambi-mag release cut magazines they will not work in it, unless you modify the magazines (requires cutting away at the magazine).

I own one. I don't know what the first reply is talking about, concerning the three itty dots. Mine has standard GLOCK sights, meaning 1 huge dot and a giant U.

I absolutely love the "air craft carrier landing deck" with the huge blocky GLOCK sights. Target acquisition is FAST. And the gun is very accurate and easy to shoot. Good groups are effortless and consistent. The recoil is tame, but the push does wear me out. My groups start to suffer after 30 shots or so, due to the relatively light weight of the gun. But I don't shoot very often.

I dig the ambi release. I always use the "wrong" button, because I can reach it without shifting my grip. But I do believe that it takes a bit more force to reliably seat the magazine with a closed slide than on the normal mag release variety GLOCKs.

I adore this gun, but it's too big for me to CCW regularly. And the limited holster selection does not help at all. This could be a big negative for the picatinny rail if you plan to CCW.

On the other hand, the big rail seems to balance the aesthetics of the large grip. It's a good looking GLOCK, if there is one. :)

Some of the early picatinny variety were made with a stock of rough trigger bars. Mine included. But a 25 cent trigger job fixed it.

The ambi mag release bothered my middle finger a lot, but one could file it down pretty easily i imagine (no doubt hurting resale if that matters). I think due to the mechanism its tighter than the standard mag release, in both seating a mag and releasing one.

Otherwise its a great gun. Some argue the point but holding the regular and SF versions back to back I could tell a difference enough to sell me on it. I found it surprisingly accurate as well. I wound up selling mine for reasons not related to the gun and miss it now. Though I think this time I will go for the 30SF so I can carry it.

This is 26 rounds @ 10 yards on my first range trip with it.

Great gun, but I would recommend staying away from the pic rail/ambi mag release version for a couple of reasons. 1st, the pic rail makes holster selection extremely difficult and doesn't offer any advantage over the standard Glock rail. Glock more or less set the standard for mounted pistol add ons and every light/laser/combo you would buy will be compatible with the standard Glock rail.

The ambi mag release is difficult to work on/modify/repair. The design is weaker than the original, which consists of just the mag release and one spring. Parts are harder to get, and I don't know of any aftermarket extended ambi mag release, whereas there are several available for the standard design. Plus there are complaints of the new version being less reliable in achieving a positive release.

The standard rail/mag release Glock 21 SF is the same price as the pic/ambi version, so it is just a matter of finding the right one in stock.

The one I shot had Trijicons on it.
