G30 v. G36 for CCW?

I think it's all about shooter preference. For me it's the G30SF because I like the feel of the grip, mag capacity and flexibility. I know many like the 36 because its a single stack and it thinner.

I carry my G30SF with no issues. It's rides in a CompTac holster 99% of the time that allows me to carry it with various flexibility.

I also really like the way my 30 feels in my hand. I did a lot research and consideration when selecting a Glock. It came down in the end to the G19 and the G30SF. Decided to get the 30 and will probably add a 19 later. I just have a lot of .45 ammo.

But I have loved the G30SF. It's my favorite carry gun hands down.

Have owned all.

G36, for me, too much recoil and FTF issues.

G30sf. Like somebody invisible standing in front of me throwing brass in my face.

Glocks will serve you best as they were designed - in 9mm.

Limpwrist?

Is that the best excuse Glock can come up with?

It doesn't happen with my Sigs, 9mm Glocks, XDs, Berettas, Kahrs or Smiths

If you're going to consider the G30, you may well just get the G29SF instead.

I never really had much interest in the 10mm for defensive use. More powerful isn't always better or we'd all be carrying .44 magnums for SD.

More expensive ammo than the .45, harder to find ammo, and harder to control in a smaller pistol without reduced power round (at which point you might as well chose the .40 or .45 anyway). I'm just not sure it offers enough advantages to off set the drawbacks.

I’ll try not to drag this too far off topic with my reply. The 10mm is more powerful in its proper loading, but the beauty of the 10 is its versatility. You can carry the gun with softer shooting rounds loaded to 40S&W specs, but in winter when heavy coats may be a concern, change out your carry rounds to something closer to Norma’s original loading.

I felt much the same way until I bought the G20SF for hiking. I developed such a liking for the 10mm round (shoots much flatter than the .45ACP) that I bought a G29SF for around town open and concealed carry. The recoil of the 10mm in the Glocks (the only 10mm with which I’m familiar) isn’t bad at all- mostly a good stiff push.

I’m not trying to change your mind, just some food for thought.

I carry Buffalo Bore 255 gr. +P hard cast .45 in my 30SF when I am in the mountains. It has been chronographed out of my gun at 923 fps MV. I switch to 230 Gold Dots the rest of the time. I have not tried the Buffalo Bore in the 36 yet, but it's only because I didn't buy enough of the stuff.

I own the G36 and it was my main CCW for about a year and i had no problem concealing IWB/SOB. It was comfortable and not to heavy and also it didn't print even when i wore light clothing. I recently purchased a Kahr CM9 and have since made it my daily CCW and the G36 is now for home defense. As for the function of the G36 i've put around 600rds of numerous ammo through it including hollow points and haven't had not one single problem what so ever with this pistol. I love it! :D

I have a G30 and have shot and handled a G36 multiple times. I really don't think the size difference is all that big and would rather have the extra rounds of the G30. I carried my G30 IWB in a Milt Sparks VMII and it was comfortable. However, as I grew in the waist (my pants shrunk :)) I found IWB not so comfortable and switched to a Alessi CQC-S which is how I carry it now.

I've had a G36 for a pretty good while, have had really bad issues with it stove piping. My neighbor showed me his XDs... I shot it,.... G36 was traded within 2 hours. I love the XDs.

36

I have had a 36 for some years now, five or so; shoot it regularly, carry it. Accurate, reliable....never a problem.

I carry the Mod 23 in the winter and the Mod 27 in the summer. 147 grain Winchester L/E only XST rounds. All my mags are high cap, including the 10 plus one Pierce Mod 27 mag extender. I like the fact that the Mod 27 will use Mod 23 or 22 mags if I need them. My Mod 27 has become my favorite all around carry weapon. Eleven rounds of 40 Cal is not bad for a small package.
