Ok, love my 1851. Still can't get over the price I paid for it. Now I am in a bit of a quandary, I want to upgrade, already :)

Was thinking of going with the Remmy reproductions for the top strap and easy cylinder swap but I am really drawn to the 1860s.

What I am looking for input on is which should I go for? Uberti or Pietta?

Is the Uberti really worth almost double the price of the Pietta? My 1851 Pietta is great, as far as I can tell, but have never fired another capnball revolver for comparison. If I go with the Pietta can I use the cylinder from my 1851 in the 1860? If I can swap between the two different Pietta revolvers, can I use the Pietta 1851 cylinder in the Uberti 1860?

Thanks folks!

Merry Christmas!

Each have their own types of problems, but the quality of today's Piettas is very good.
I have about 20 Piettas and love them all.
I also have a bunch of Ubertis and love them too.
Pietta makes a number of models that never existed.
However, all the parts are interchangable, in my experience.
44 caliber 1860s and 44 caliber 1851 will exchange barrels, grips, cylinders & frames, in my experience.
I have Pietta 1860s in barrel lengths in 3", 5.5" & 8".
All will swap parts.

The same is true with 36 caliber Piettas in my experience.

The guns are being made much better now.

Try to shoot a Remmie before you buy.
There is not as much space between the trigger guard and the gripframe & for many of us, it bangs the middle finger of our gun hand something fierce.
Don't be put off by the fact that Colts must have the barrel off to change cylinders.
If the wedge fits properly, you can pop it off & pull the barrel in a jiffy.
All my Colts come apart easily -- I use a cylinder loader to reload them at cowboy matches -- no problemo!

I think both Pietta and Uberti produce very good, quality revolvers. You can't go wrong with either.

With the ROA out of production, it may become a grail gonne.

Thanks folks for your opinions. I'll probably get myself a nice pietta 1860. What I save in the gun is more lead and powder I get to shoot :)

I also own and shoot Pietta and Urberti repo revolvers in the Colt and Remington patterns. I find the quality of newly manufactured products to be equal. Remington vs Colt patterns depends on who you talk too, Each havetheir pluses and minuses so if you can go shoot with someone and decide for yourself or do as many of us do and buy both.

Yep both brands are nifty. No complaints with quality. The Remmie is a bit tight and bangs my mitts too but they are cool. There is also enough meat in the grip frame to take some metal off and widen out the curve some(future project) they are also on sale now at Cabela's

I've had slightly better luck with Piettas lately in terms of fit and finish but neither brand's all that risky. I'd make a list of the half dozen models you would most like and then just get whatever's on sale first, frankly. You're going to end up with a dozen of the things before you're done anyway, or at least that seems to be where I'm headed, gah.

1858's are crazy cheap at Cabelas right now so that's clearly the next one... 1860s go on and off of sale all the time as well, and they've been running good deals on Uberti Walkers on and off recently. Then start looking at some pocket models...
