A couple of years ago, I was doing a little research on .22 air rifles. I took a chance on a Gamo Whisper and have been pleasantly surprised! Groupings tightened up nicely after 50-60 pellets and it seems to prefer the heavier ones which I prefer as well. I've stretched it out to 130 yards a few times and, while I'm no sharpshooter, I was able to hit a 12oz. water bottle at that distance fairly consistently. Not enough power to break the plastic but it'll make the bottle jump!

Here are a couple of pics from this morning @ just a little over 30 yards. That can is decently thick, so I was impressed to see it made it out the back with no trouble. Fun little backyard shooter!

I don't think that there is a single powerful "springer", that can even remotely compare to PCP or rimfire in terms of accuracy - it's just "the nature of the beast" as you call it.

My experience in this area is very limited but I have no doubt you are right. I do know the Gamo is more accurate than my .22's were with subsonic ammo and it does everything I need it to do!

I have had terrible luck with GAMO but I suppose some are good or nobody would buy them. I have been surprised by some air rifles.

I have a Gamo Whisper Raptor in 22 caliber. It's reasonably accurate and a surprising amount of power for a springer. I use it for rat and squirrel control, works well on both using the Crosman Premiere flat points. Sometimes I'll drop the pellets in backwards for a cornered rat at close range and it makes them jump pretty good then they flop over and die👍
Fun pellet gun and a good teaching tool.

As far as the "Whisper" is concerned, I have a .22lr using subsonics that's quieter. My Raptor is kinda loud.

I was not a gamo fan but have three...Got them all cheap a Gamo Compact ssp pistol that I sought out and is a decent basement target gun. was on sale many years ago for under 100. I got a Gama Swarm 10x .177 for 49.00 brand new on clearance and while I hate the cheaper feel its hoots pretty well. I figure it is a great beater if I do not wanna beat on my HW or FWB springers. Then I got a Gamo urban pcp in .22 on sale andused someamazon points and had like 120 in it and it shoots good and makes another great beater rifle for me. I would like to find a single shot Gamo springer one of these days.

The problem is not so much Gamo as people expect those (just about any) break barrel spring rifles to actually be accurate and they are largely not. What they are, at any power level much above 12 fpe, is a scope busting, obnoxious reverse recoiling, elephant gun sized and weight toy.

well quality springers are plenty accurate. problems are not holding correctly or consistently or taking the time to learn your gun and or break it in. Cheap springers can indeed have additional issues

I guess I do not agree. That always gets repeated, it is sort of like being told you are not catching fish because you are not holding your mouth right.

A gas spring side lever might be interesting if it were under six pounds and about 38 inches long and made a good 20+ fpe. Might need a compound cocking lever.
