gander mountain files for bankruptcy

I guess this is no real surprise. 32 stores to close. The one in rockford, IL I occasionally shop at is not one that is closing.

I have never quite understood the attraction to this chain. The pricing is not especially good and there is nothing special in the merchandise selection. It is not like Cabellas where it is kind of a destination in itself. It is just a store.

In my opinion Gander mountain completely sucks! They are full MSRP for all guns, have almost no reloading accessories in stock. Cabellas is much better for a big box store.

Well, for me the difference is that the Gander Mountain is just over a mile away while the nearest Cabellas or Bass Pro requires pretty much the entire day. I'll miss Gander if they don't make it.
