Gander Mountain upset

...all the while I'm reassured they'll be "right with me".

You can't really complain about this, having worked in retail I know you cant help everyone at once, at least they recognized your presence, thats more than a lot of other places do. That being said the other complaints about GM has led me to take my business elsewhere.

Being a former MI resident, I can honestly say the state and it's FFL dealers (weird I know) are becoming more anti-gun with each passing year.

I could never figure that out..the state is a beautiful wilderness with outstanding hunting.....but crazy politics.

Dear god,

Anything but a black bolt action rifle. Maybe this guy at the gun counter was a bigot?

Heck, the Gander near me sells a selection of EBR's, but they are overpriced.

I don't go to Gander much, I really find their prices are much worse than Sportsman's Warehouse or Bass Pro.

next time you experience really bad service, take a few minutes to write a letter to the manager of the store and cc the president of the company. several letters about the same problem and they will do something. the "bruce" story is just over the top. getting angry and Telling "bruce" he's a jerk feeds his ego. he already knows he's a jerk and likes being one. frankly, i would much rather deal with the smaller dealers when i can, because if we don't, they will disappear. when they are gone, all that will be left is bruce. spend the extra money (the small guy may even be less money!) and you'll get service and satisfaction. and you might make a friend.

I used to work at Gander Mountain in the firearms department and I do not believe that this is a blanket policy of that retail chain. The local Ganders carry the Smith & Wesson Ar15 model and I have even seen the Gander by Baxter MN with a Sig 556 in stock. I am guessing the problematic Ganders are in jurisdictions with more restrictive gun laws and presumably in areas where the population is less accustomed to seeing such firearms. I have not even received any grief in the metro area of MN, but I am sure politicians will fix that here as well.

The way I look at it, they should be happy that you are willing to enter their store. Of the four that have have been to, I have been thoroughly underwhelmed by their high prices and lack of customer service. They have a great selection of high-priced firearms and there little chain on the rifles is a nice trick, but the prices on their ammo and reloading supplies are rediculous!

That really sux. The GM back in Roanoke VA has a new Remmy 700 XCR-TLR....it's in OD green but fills basically the same design function as a 10FP. Also, it's ironic that he said that when his store likely had in stock multiple Savage rifles in black or dark gray composite stocks with scopes already mounted. I guess heavy barrels = evil rifles?

The GM back home has several M1As, at least 10 ARs of various make and spec, two SIG 556s, the XCR-TLR, two Remmy 700 VTRs, several new Remington R-15 ARs, and quite a few "evil" shotguns like the Mossberg 500 Persuader and Benelli M-1014.

I'm in the Lansing area and while that GM has some decent firearms the staff is useless. Last time I was there, at the main counter, looking at scopes, the staff guy was 10 feet away reading a magazine and never looked up.

Another time I found an RCBS powder trickler with no price tag. I tracked down one of the elusive GM staff and he said "I don't know the price, but it's probably around 39 bucks".

The only time I saw great customer service was a woman getting help choosing binoculars at the firearm counter with three GM employees hovering about her.

I guess to get good service you have to have boobs.

In their defense, I did buy some beef jerky and a coke and they were both real tasty.

You talking about the one off of W Saginaw HWY? i was there looking for an HK mount last week(i should have known better, ill take the hit on that) i wandered around in front of the younger goateed clerk, who never looked up from his magazine for 20 minutes. i asked about the mount, his response was 'No, you have to buy one online", then went back to reading his article. what a turd.

Yep, the same place.

It's sad though, I used to be dedicated to Gander Mtn when they first came to my area some 15 years ago or so. The closest store was in Flint and I thought they were great and had a very decent gunsmith too.

The best shop within an hour of me is in Davison (just a few miles east of Flint, off I-69). You'd know them as Williams Gun Sight. Good staff, great selection, helpful on the phone, and on site ranges.

>>>>Avesguy, You have been to the one off of northlake, and I-95, Have you seen their prices for a S&W M&P 15? 950-1000! FFS. I can goto Palm beach trap and skeet club in wellington and order one and a brand new scope and still save 150$. GM prices far exceed any gun shop in palm beach county by over 100-200$. Their employees can't explain anything past what is printed on the tag that displays the price and a few specs of the weapon, and that is only after they read the tag when you hand them the rifle. If you even mention A and K in the same sentence you'll be basicly yelled at, forget even trying to get them to change a AK barrel for you.<<<

Yes, they are expensive. They get casual guys who don't know any different, like Bass PRo gets. If they can get it, well, good for them. They just won't get that price from any of us, eh?

However they carry LOTS of AR's, M1A' and other politically incorrect rifles. That is a good thing as the public gets to see lots of EBR's on their visits to this superstore. Even though the prices are high.

I have never been to PB Trap/Skeet. I thought it closed down when they sold the land. So they are still open as a retail shop only? I guess I have to go check it out. I've bought a few things online and had them transferred through Court, locally, that has worked out well too.

There is another new shop on Indiantown Road almost at Jupiter Farms, it's owned by a guy who used to work at Tactical Edge in Riviera Beach, I think. I knew him immediately when I walked in one day on my way back from someone's house in JF. Just spotted the store and checked it out. I was about to buy something when some guy came in and started grousing about the EBR's and Class III stuff they carry there - he wanted to get into a political argument with the owner (ex military gunsmith/gun builder) over the availablity of this stuff to the public. I left before buying anything because I didn't want to wait around for the argument to run its course and I didn't want to lose my temper and call the customer an idiot, which he was.

Gander Mountain had a "sale" "hot buy" and I saw a .243 Win. Savage Package rifle with Simmons scope, for $339 (sans accutrigger). The next day I made the decision to buy. Sorry, sales over, now $400--I walked, Next day, I went back and the kid at the counter took my offer to buy at the sale price to the manager. It's a deal! It came with Gander's extra year guarantee, plastic gun case and gun sock. I'm happy. It shot within an inch with cheapest Federal ammo during break in.

Brooks, you may want to check out The Gun Stop located in Minnetonka being you're in the metro area. The so called "sale price" you got at Gander is at or near their normal everyday price.

Yes, PB S&T club is still "open" but all you can basicly do is call in orders, they no longer have a "store" you can walk in. They still take orders for guns, but they only allow phoned in.
