Texas, baby!
I have not yet checked all the Gander mtns in the Houston area, but just went to this one. As you all know, they are having a 20% off sale on all weapons right now. There are a few decent rifles here to look for, especially if you are looking for a Savage short action package rifle in 204. However, the best deal i saw right now is this; The Howa 1500 in the Hogue package, with OD green stock, 24 inch bbl, with scope. Normally this rifle is over 550 bucks, and I just read an outstanding review on these in the latest gunrag. Right now, they have one of these, IN 243 CAL., FOR 379 BUCKS!!!! If I did not allready have a pristine 788 right now, I woulda been all over this!!!!

I wish they would open up a store on the Gulf Freeway. Way too far away for me to save money.

I heard of that sale, so I went in to a Gander Mountain for the first time ever. My girlfriend and I looked at the prices, horrified that the sales were higher priced than similar guns at another store right down the road. She commented "That's why they call it Gander Mountain. The prices are so high, you come in, take a gander, and LEAVE."

Heard of some good prices but havent checked them out! I usually hit the one on 59S close to Sugarland!

Grunt Out!

I'm pretty close to the one on 290 and Hwy 6. Did you happen to notice if they had any Mosins left?

Looking for a Marlin 1895G with 18.5 inch barrel in .45-70 if anyone sees give me a holler! I will be heading to Houston on Saturday to start my search!

Grunt Out!

I checked out the one in Texarkana, TX last weekend and they did not have any bargains there. There ammo was pitifully high-priced and their firearms weren't much better. Though there isn't any competition there.

Texarkanna Gander

The GM in Texarkanna is ridiculous. I've seen beat up 336s for over $400.00 there. ammo is high, cloths are high, and you wont find a bargain anywhere in the store. Thats why the parking lot is usually empty.

I did by some arrows there once and the kid working cut them for me while I checked out so thats a plus.

Best place to buy guns in that area is the Wal-Mart in New Boston. They are great people to deal with. They know what they are doing and have great prices.

I've been to the Gander Mountain locations in Corsicana (south of Dallas) and Spring (Houston). At both, the prices were ridiculous. Even with 20% off, they'll still be overpriced.

I either wait for the gun shows to come around or save my money and go to Buda, TX at the Cabelas there.

Everything they have there OUTSIDE of their gun-library is rather fairly priced for the most part. The reloading supplies are much better stocked, and the people are a helluva lot more friendly than at the GM here in Spring.

If a Cabelas opened up say somewhere in Montgomery Co. or North Harris, GM would fold...game over. GM can't compare to the volume Cabelas pushes...they are the WalMart of sporting goods stores. :) lol

I've bought several guns at Gander Mountain Johnson City, NY. Got some very good deals.

S&W 639 - $250
High Standard Field King .22 - $225
12ga Wingmaster - $175
700 ADL .270 - $190 (employee discount on this one)

You've got to time it right. The price of the used stuff is based on what they paid for the gun. Sometimes I see overpriced crap, sometimes I see deals. Obviously the deals to stay around too long. There's no defending the ammo prices though. They suck.

Generally speaking, you won't find anything but overpriced guns and ammo at gander mountain. Their sales are terrible. They just mark up the "original price" to make it look good. Once and a while you may score a deal but any other store out there will beat their prices and do so by reading the sticker on the shelf. Meaning, the "other stores" price their guns lower and don't pull the B.S. "we'll price match" routine. You ever try price matching at Gander? It's like pulling a disgruntal employees teeth out.

I like to stop in and browse any gun shop that handles used firearms whenever I can. I used to frequent several Gander Mountain stores in the Twin Cities area to peruse their used inventory. In the past 12 months or so their pricing has gone completely off the deep end. I used to find decent pricing and the occasional nice deal, sadly those days are gone.

Texarkana, New Boston and Sulphur Springs, my old stomping grounds. I grew up in T-town and still have family in NB and SS. :D As for Gander Mountain...I was at the Beaumont, TX store yesterday window-shopping. Saw a stainless Springfield Loaded for right at a grand, and a parked one for about $900, if I remember right. I think window-shopping is about all I'll do at Gander Mountain as far as guns go.

Abolsute0, I'm living near the twin cities as well and couldn't agree more with you.

the pistolero, I drool over that SA 1911 loaded you speak of. It's the same price at my local Gander ($1,000). I can get it near my work at a guns shp for $750!!! It's the same gun...I don't get why anyone would buy a new gun from Gander. You're better off using Gander to play with the guns and check them out and then ordering off the internet and having the FFL send the gun to Gander and pay the $20 - $30 FFl paperwork fee. I bet you'd save hundreds doing that!

I got my 870 Express at Gander for $200 flat a few years ago. But then I think every store had that deal.

They used to have a huge ammo selection. That seems to have gone down the tubes. I couldn't get Winchester AA .20 gauge in 8 shot last time I was there. They still have decent selection of magazines out in the open, so I guess that's there.

Like playing with all the toys, but haven't bought anything since that 870.

The local Gander had a Heritage .22 revolver, used, for a little over $180. MSRP is a little over $170(or was then). Winchester 7.62x54 ammo is ~$30 a box of 20.

I don't buy there. It's next to the grocery store, so I look at the used case occasionally, as I have seen a rare few decent prices, but too many used guns selling for around MSRP for me.

I bought the parked one for $760 & change after tax from a local FFL who's a friend of a friend of the family. And of course, to get back on topic, the rifle prices aren't any better. Like I tell my FFL all the time, I go to GM to look, but I go see him when I want to buy.
