There are an endless number of firearms you should check out because they're cool, but if you can carry in all weather with what you have and it's concealed, don't worry about it. There is NO GAP as long as you have iron on you. A lot of folks view CCW handguns as the end-all and be-all of firearms, so they tend to pile on more and more. Just keep it simple and stick to what you know. These are short range, limited-purpose defensive firearms ONLY that are designed to ride hidden. You should never even consider using one in your home or anywhere else you can carry a long gun.

I can't see any need for more than what you have. I consider the BHP a mid-size handgon. You could conceal it in an IWB with a light covering shirt. People are concealing full size 1911's these days.

Do you have a long gun for home defense? If not that's where I'd put my money.

Well said. I've been concealing a full sized 1911 since I was #135 (14-15 years ago) Now at #175, I feel it's a cake walk to hide a 1911- in Florida, during the summer.

A 40 ounce gun is a pants puller downer. My preference is for guns under 25 ounces IWB and under about 20 ounces max in a pocket, unloaded weights.

Lately, I've just begun to pocket carry. It has advantages which include comfort, but also as for readiness when you see a situation you're wary of. You can put your hand in your pocket and grasp the gun where you might look a little obvious grasping it IWB. Nothing happens as per usual, fine. Guy becomes aggressive, you're already grasping the gun. Takes a lot of time out of the draw. The compact nines, for the most part, can be carried in a pocket if it's big enough. I have found it takes some lookin' to find a pair of jeans that work. The two pairs I've found are a new cargo pocket Wrangler with large front pockets, large enough for a J frame and Levis carpenters jeans which have an even bigger front pocket. I haven't worn IWB in a while, now. Again, my preference.

Yes, you can carry a really flat firearm like a 1911 IWB concealed even in summer attire. What kills it for me, though, is the shear weight of the thing. I'd prefer a lightweight officers if I were going with a 1911 style, or at LEAST a lightweight commander. I haven't even seen those scandium S&W 1911s. I'm sure they're out of my price range, though.

I haven't noticed that as long as I use a gunbelt like my Rosen.

I'd get

A S&W 638 or other Jframe. Small concelable and a good safe gun for administrative load/unload on road trips.

Another alternative would be a 1911. Like another response already said it's a .45, and a lot of good guys are still around because of it.

There are always gaps in our CCW selection, otherwise how can we justify to our wives the need for another gun.:neener:

Get something along the lines of a Kahr P9, Glock 26 or Kel tec P11.
