General question (9mm) Sig/Ruger?

This is concerning the Sig SP2022 in my sig.

I know this is a little late to be asking this.
But I was debating between a 9mm Ruger P95, and the 9mm Sig SP2022 (15rd mag).

In your opinion, are those 2 guns, generally, equal in quality?

Or do you favor one over the other? & If so, could you elaborate a bit, as to why.

No need to second guess yourself. The SP2022 is an outstanding pistol. I have one as do many other SIG owners and most agree it compares very very favorably to the classic line SIG pistols such as the P226 and P229 in reliability, trigger action quality, and accuracy.

I have never tried or owned a P95 but understand it is a fine pistol also. In the end the user should try both and then decide which they can shoot best with and otherwise suits their needs.

That was the deciding factor for me. At my local dealer, I fired both, and both were spot on, but the feel of the SP2022 was better, and I ended up getting a very good deal on it, so there was really 2 deciding factors.

I just wanted to be sure that I didn't pass up an excellent gun.
But I think I got the best one for me!

I don't have a 2022, but I have another SIG 9mm (a P6) and I've got a Ruger P95. IMHO, you probably did just fine. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Ruger and if I had to make a recommendation I'd probably recommend it, but merely because it costs a few $$$ less. The SIG will likely serve you just as well so if you like it more and didn't have a problem with the price (or got a good deal as you mention) then have fun with it!

My local dealer isn't going to carry Sig firearms anymore (Unknown why?), & I've known him for quite a while now, so I got the 2022 for under 360.00, but only 1 mag. I figured that would be my last chance to get a 2022 for that price. So I jumped on it. I looked around the web, and couldn't find one for less than 390+, so I figure that'll pay for a 2nd clip.

Both are very good guns. I own a p95 and love it. If you are seriously that concerned about missing out then save up and get a used p95 later. I got mine used (very lightly used) for $275. The Sig should be a higher class gun with better fit and finish overall but the Ruger is designed to be a cheap and efficient work horse. YMMV

Yep, a few 100 rounds are going through the Sig this weekend! It does have a nice feel to it!

Bad news...

I fractured my thumb, and it's gonna take about 6 to 8 weeks for that to heal, so I have to wait to pump a few hundred rounds through my SP2022. Planned on doing it this weekend :banghead:

I'll probably wait 2 weeks and go, just to see how it feels!

Sorry to hear.

That said, assuming you can load and rack the slide without causing trouble to the thumb, you could always shoot the gun using only your weak hand (assuming your strong hand is the injured one). A lot of competitions have strings that must be fired strong or weak-hand only, and you'd be surprised just how many otherwise good shots can't hit the broadside of a bard weak-handed. It's good practice .

sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you enjoy some offhand practice. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you got some even better pain meds for your thumb. Joint injuries and hand injuries are never fun or painless.

Ya, it's pretty darn sore! & just aspirin for pain.

I will enjoy some weak hand practice! I'm not to bad with the SR40 weak hand only, so hopefully this 9mm may be a bit easier for my weak hand shooting? We shall see!

You're welcome, and like the others, I hope your hand heals quickly. At least you're doing the right thing by keeping a positive attitude & taking advantage of the forced weak hand practice. I think that's a good lesson for us all.

Now would be a good time to learn how to shoot with your 'weak' hand.
