I looked around and didn't see another thread on this. If I missed it, sorry! That being said...
Georgia has a new law that goes into effect on July 1. The law reformed the concealed carry law, and now CCW permit holders can carry a firearm onto/into public transit (among other locations). Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson Airport claim they do not have to follow this law, and have declared the airport a 'gun free zone.'
Rep. Tim Beardon, who helped pass the law, states Federal law prevents the possession of firearms in the controlled or "secure" areas (which it does), and the unsecure areas are regulated by state law (they are). Beardon rightly claims that the city cannot usurp state law and deny citizens ability to carry a concealed firearm that is clearly allowed by state law.
The General Manager of Hartsfield said he will have Beardon arrested. Beardon said (paraphrasing) 'just try.'
Finally! A politician with guts!
More info here.
