I have had this German k98 for about two years now, and have recently found out what looks like to be lines on the stock of the k98. They are on the underside of the stock (where your hand goes) I've done alot of research and this gun was a Russian Capture if that helps determine anything. I don't have many ideas on what these markings suggest. Any help would be appreciated!! 20190508_062329.jpg

Well I was hoping some one would reply by now.. Are you sure its a stamping ??? Maybe its just a ding.. That poor rifle has gone through a lot of crap,, Hey why not post a few more photos of it. I loves Rifle porn, Especially Mauser rifle ;)

Some stocks will have a single Waffenamt in that area but it is normally centered. I agree that looks like a damaged area.

I would agree that the off center marks on the wrist are scratches, not waffenampts.
The Russians did not put any markings other than the crossed rifles (in addition the the force matching numbers on major parts) on RC 98Ks that I have ever seen.

Is the serial number a four digit with no suffix? And what are the markings to the left of the serial (at forward edge of the receiver).
Anything on the receiver's right side?
While there is lots of speculation involved, many feel the single rune 98's were a separate SS contract for some reason, and that they were
serialed in a separate block.

That 98 will hold it's value over a standard RC and is a nice looking one to boot.

Thanks for sharing,
JT

Oh yeah!! I've got a "bnz" Russian capture, too. 1941. Stock & receiver matching; everything else mismatched. But everything working quit well together. Bolt as smooth as butter. Shoots straight. Yours looks like it's in great shape. I agree the marks are just dings. Looks to me like vise damage. Was yours re-blued by the Russkies right over original metal finish pitting?
