Are Mauser k98 stocks interchangeable with m48 ? I have gotten a k98 and the stock's fit is a little off . The recoil lugs don't quite line up with the holes in the stock and the tang is right against the wood . Got a nicer k98 stock coming but would like to know what stock is on it know .. As far as m48 I am just guessing , could be a k98 , m48 or anything for that matter .

I wish I was smart enough to post pictures . The crossbolt bolts and the holes in the stock , the bolts are way toward the rear side (butt side) of the hole leaving about 1.4mm gap on the front side (muzzle side) of the hole and the back end of the tang is all the way against the wood inlet for it if that makes sense . This has caused very fine hair line cracks to start to form in those areas . The rifle is marked Model 98 . Just trying to figure out if this is a different Mauser model stock or is this something that happens sometimes with K98s ? I was helping a friend with this rifle cause someone left it to him but he made me a real cheap offer for it cause he is not into milsurps . The receiver has DOU stamp and dated 1943 meaning Slovakia I think I read . Any help would be great .

I have not shot this rifle and won't till the stock thing is straitened out . I don't won't to have those hair line cracks open up . If it's ok to open up the inlets some and make room I can do that . Another friend has a Israeli K98 stock he is sending me . But I really want to find out what is on it so if I decide to get rid of the stock I can truthfully say what it is for .

There's two kinds of Israeli K98. The later version is a .308-length reciever so its stock won't fit the 8x57-length reciever. But I'm thinking if it's the earlier 8x57-length, they should be interchangeable.

Thanks for heads up on the Israeli stocks . HankC so are misaligned crossbolts and holes just poor quality control during the war ?

That is definitely not a Yugoslavian M48 with that description.

I would think poor bedding/fitting caused the recoil hitting it hard and shift it overtime. Cracks in the area would be indications. Likely fixable by bedding, post at the Gunsmithing section with pictures, there are folks very knowledgeable and willing to help.
