Got an old knife as a gift, looks like it has a stag handle, total length is like 7 inches, and sharpened up nice...it has "Anton Wingdon Jr. Solingen Germany" on one side and "Othello Solingen" on the other. Any one know what it is and a value?

Thanks, something about an old knife, handle polished by skin from years of handling. He said he got it when he was in the military, I did not ask which one! (He appears to be around 70). He saw me coveting it and "made" me take it

It looks like what many people refer to as a "traditional soligen hunting knife."
That pattern is very common on knives made in that area.
I have an Edgemark skinner which is similar to that knife.
I don't know about that particular brand,though.

Should be a good knife. That pattern is an old one and hard to improve upon for most outdoorsmen. Is it "Wingdon" or "Wingen?" I see stuff about "Anton Wingen" marked blades from time to time. Is there perhaps a profile of a man's face etched on the side marked "Wingdon/Wingen?"

Othello is an old Solingen company. I found some Othello knives for sale at various places on the web, but none like yours. Most were small "boot-knife" type daggers or hunters with slab handles. There were several references to "Othello/Russell" knives, which might mean that Othello knives were imported by A.G. Russell and sold as A.G. Russell knives. There was a leaf-shaped "Canadian-style" belt knife, in particular, that looked similar to the leaf-blade Canadian knives A.G. Russel used to offer.

That's not much, but it's all I found. You could probably dig deeper. Try searching under "Wingen." I searched with Wingdon and got nothing, so I searched for "Othello knife Solingen" and got quite a few results that talked about Othello knives marked "Anton Wingen."

Yes there is, tried to capture it in the photo but could not get close enough. I have searched all over and have not found one like it. Thanks for all the info, guess I'll dig deeper with the info provided. Great feeling knife, takes a great edge...doubt if it is a collector so I'll be using it for one of my skinners.
