I'm watching "I survived" with my wife, and there's a 15 year old girl who was convinced a gun point to go from her front door to the BGs car, and get into a big plastic bin in the back.

I commented that it's never a good idea to go from a situation where you're in the middle of a neighborhood into a trunk / car / plastic bin, even if you're at knife / gun point.

Does anyone have any solid / hard support for this advice?

So, is your question, should an person get into a cage when confronted by an abductor with a weapon?

You either fight for your life, or you hope to survive whatever fate awaits you in the cage.

This is a mindset question, not a statistical or anecdotal question.

I like that show, but have noticed that MOST of the survivors would have resolved their issues by either making better decisions and/or having a working firearm. Bad guys, wild animals, heck even as a signaling device for those lost in the wilderness...

To answer the OP, as a rule I would never cooperate with the "get in the bin" order unless it means that I was sure the person would kill me on the spot. Getting in the 'bin' just means they want to take you to an abandoned place to torment you or worse.

Well you aren't really going to know if you're going to be killed until you get shot...and at that point you may not have the ability to change your mind. Words are words until they are turned into actions...and a gunshot to the head is a pretty significant action

Nah, I think you'd have at least a sense of how "serious" the individuals are... and their firepower, motivations, calmness, sadism, etc.

Arab fundamentalists? Gangbangers making a name for themselves? Junky wanting a score? Confused old man with an ancient .32 pistol?

I was always told/under the impression to fight tooth and nail against an abductor/offender that wants to take you away from the scene of the offense. I guess if they take you they plan to keep you/kill you.

from what I've read,
bad things can happen when an armed individual confronts you

MUCH WORSE will happen when you GO with them
see the thing is, most will LET you get away, scream and run, many will head the opposite dirrection or turn and disable/gain control of the weapon, and you will find that they usually value their own survival and freedom enough to leave quickly.

in general im with the dont go theory
but i remember a situation that happened here in memphis several years back
two hoods got the drop on an older gentleman as he was going to his car and instructed him at gun point to get in it, he complied , the hoods drove and were trying to take him to atm i believe, anyway the older man had concealed gun , he waited until they had dropped their guard and killed them both ,
so there are exceptions to rules

They're already someone who cares so little about your safety and well being that they are employing deadly force to get something from you.

You NEVER, EVER cooperate with a trip to the secondary crime scene

I saw the episode in question. It made me ask myself what I would have done if I lived across the street and witnessed the event. So many possible responses...

1. Dial 911 give plate number and follow with my own vehilce (armed of course)

2. Once the perp gets in the car immediatly approach from the blind spot gun drawn and scream at him to show his hands with my firearm pointed at his head from 2' away.

3. If time utilize my own vehicle to ram/block his car in driveway, call cops, prepare for gunplay (girl in backseat!!).

4. Just run up and plug him as soon as he steps in the car with no warning.

I have to say I wouldn't have let him leave, no matter what. Even if that meant taking my Jeep (which I love) and crashing it into the back of his vehicle pinning it against the house. I'd want someone to do the same for my loved ones.

I would assert that this gentleman did not comply, but that he feigned compliance. There is a distinct difference. Feigning compliance is a purposeful tactic that serves only to gain an advantage and is very legitimate given the right circumstances.

I've spent too many years as a police officer in some pretty bad areas to ever give out the advice that you should comply with an assailant that wishes to take you from one place to another. The moment you are moved from your original location the deck is exponentially stacked against you, unless you have a definite plan that includes the feigning compliance technique.

Fight, scream, yell, kick, punch, shoot..... whatever your method, determine to fight. You may die while trying but it's better than to die while complying.

This isn't generally a scenario that would happen to an armed adult.

Any weapon that you possess and is not taken from you, can be used to escape your abductors. However, history shows that you would probably be better fighting to stand your ground, rather than go with an abductor, any where, any time.

Worst case scenario: Abducted, raped and certainly killed at their leisure, away from witnesses. 2nd Worse: Resisting, shot into the cranial case, spinal column or heart, dead, if the aim or your luck at dodging the wrong way is that bad, possible witnesses. Next-worse: Resisting - a non-CNS gunshot wound from a handgun is generally survivable, unless a bad shot hits critical circulatory components: critical condition/possibly fatal, and the BG leaves, possible witnesses. Hopefully, 911 and a hospital are near by, and you do not suffer a rapidly bleeding kidney shot, or a massive lung-shot. You are hospitalized and face severe future medical debts, but live. Witnesses may or may not testify, in court, to what they saw.

BGs do not want witnesses, and do not want any sort of struggle or conflict during their attack.

My wife escaped an abductor in Southern Florida when she was but a very young child. She yelled, screamed, fought, and wrote his tag number in the sand next to the road. That SOB was caught, she is still here and doing fine.

I have seen several statistics that say that the secondary crime scene is usually where a rape, murder, or both can be carried out without spectators...

I believe that you have a better chance if you make yourself a poor victim from the onset. Fight, kick, and yell. This is what most LEO's will tell you.

They may just take your stuff and not you if you are a gigantic PITA. They may just move onto an easier victim too....

If they are intent on killing you, you are gonna die either way.
