I hope the pro-gun Brits understand that we're bashing their government and the anti-gun nanny state crowd over there, and not them. Californians understand the concept pretty well.

Boofus mentioned banning knives. I swear that I heard something on the radio about 3 Doctors in the UK wanting to ban knives with sharp points and make it mandatory that all knives have rounded, dull ends. The people who did the study went so far as to interview cooks to see if the ban on pointy knives would interfer with cooking. The report said that it would not.

I will look around and see if I can find a link for it...

UPD3315,you could of just did a search on THR,there were already numerous links and threads on that Team of doctors in Middlesex.

***! Could have. Didn't. Reason why? Didn't know. Just trying to throw something interesting out. From here on out I will search for all of my information on THR not via Google...

just how do replica guns cost lives?
i could see maybe a mugging, but if it is a replica???

are people converting them to real like mad?

the tone of that article is amazing. so much for objective reporting

Thorn:

They are claming that the replicas can be easily converted to "real". I suppose that's accurate in the sense that about anything can be converted into a ZIP gun, but also leaves that possibility out.

In that sense - that conversion is possible - then they may indeed be a danger. To the shooter, too, I think, but that's another story.

In terms of muggings or robberies, the perception that a gun is real is often sufficient for the BG to get his wish.

'Course, should the potential victim figure out that it's a squirt gun.... Except that self-defense seems to be illegal in the UK.

The journalism standard seems to be lower than usual in this instance.

Bear in mind that the whole process of getting rid of guns begins with giving them bad names: "Assault Rifle", "easily-converted replica", etc.

Then it's "Well, who needs one of those?"

And down the slippery slope we go again.

Regards,

"And they can be converted to fire live rounds with the minimum of expertise - fuelling a devastating trade in DIY death"

What? Most of the cheap ones are made of plastic, and even the good solid CO2
guns are too weak, it woukld take a lot more than "Minimal expertise" to convert one.
