They are claming that the replicas can be easily converted to "real". I suppose that's accurate in the sense that about anything can be converted into a ZIP gun, but also leaves that possibility out.
In that sense - that conversion is possible - then they may indeed be a danger. To the shooter, too, I think, but that's another story.
In terms of muggings or robberies, the perception that a gun is real is often sufficient for the BG to get his wish.
'Course, should the potential victim figure out that it's a squirt gun....
Except that self-defense seems to be illegal in the UK.
The journalism standard seems to be lower than usual in this instance.
Bear in mind that the whole process of getting rid of guns begins with giving them bad names: "Assault Rifle", "easily-converted replica", etc.
Then it's "Well, who needs one of those?"
And down the slippery slope we go again.
