Getting an out of state License to Carry Firearms in PA

Summary: PA will issue a nonresident permit if you have a permit from your home state.

Sometimes, the sherriff of centre county will issue to NJ FID holders, sometimes not.

+1 on Florida.

yep, I've got a PA permit. Took a little less than 2 weeks to get, as I recall. Gotta love PA compared to the People's Republic of NY....

Every time I go down there shopping or something I am shocked by little things like ashtrays on all the tables in the Mc Donalds and stuff--it's like going back to when I was a kid in NY ;)

Oh, and opening day of hunting season there are calls pulled over all over off the interstates and such from hunters off hunting--pretty funny. It is of course illegal to pull your car over pff an interstate in NY I believe...I have to move to a free country some day...

Or, I beleive, you could get a NH non-resident permit which has reciprocity with a ton of states, including PA, no NH residency permit needed.

Let me see if I understand this. If I get a CCW from FL I can carry in Del. and PA without haveing to apply for a ccw in those states?

Some states will issue to non-residents with varying degrees of difficulty. PA is like send $20 and a copy of your current permit. Once you have these non-res permits some other states will honor them but check packing.org for info as some will only recognize the permit if yopu actually live in that state.

I have 4 permits making me good in about 32 states.

Depends on where you are from. If you live in a state that has CCW then you must send a copy of your license. If you are like me from Illinois where there is none you will be issued one from Centre County. Unless it has changed New Hampshire will only issue if you allready have one, same deal, they will accept a non-resident CCW if you are from a non-issue state.
Unless either of these states have changed their rules in the last couple years that is what works. If you are looking for CCW coverage in a lot of states look into Florida and Utah, they both give you about 27 states and each has a couple different states. These two are also harder to get, more paperwork and training requirements, but nothing that bad concidering what you get.

Not to mention a bunch of other states.

Full list from packing.org below.

AGAIN, if you go this route and then travel and carry concealed, make sure you know all the laws of every state you will travel through or carry in.

You also need to re-check these laws every time you go as laws change.

YOU MUST check the source (state police, attorney general etc.) and I always print out the web page and take it with me.

One example: in Maryland a pistol with a full mag, even if it is not in the gun is considered loaded and illegal to transport.

packing.org is a great resource for the source information.

I have permits from the following states:

Virginia
Maine
Pennsylvania
New Hampshire
Florida

This gives me coverage in most of the country, including Colorado (FL, NH) since we're moving back here. I'm going to get my CO permit so that I stay within the guidelines for the NH & PA permits while aloowing me to carry in "resident only" states like Michigan. I might also go for UT since that'll give me WA and some other states.

It'd be nice if all states recognized all other states permits so that we all wouldn't have to go through this multiple permit process, but so be it for now. Alaska/Vermont style across the land would be better, but you know the politicians and money-hungry governments (not to mention the anti-gunners) would never go for that.
