I'm heading to Thailand next week; hopefully, the gf will get a chance to shoot a real gun there.
I asked her last night, do you remember anything I've taught you about guns?
She starts (in a naggy voice)
"FINGER OFF THAT TRIGGER!!"
"wATCH WHERE THAT MUZZLE IS POINTED!!"
"Something about a bullet in every gun or something close to that.."
"FINGER OFF THAT TRIGGER!!"
She said those where the 4 things she remember.. She said it's been a while, and she can't remember much of what I taught her, but she will (even in her deepest nightmares) remember finger off the trigger!
I consider that a win. Because, if she keeps her finger off the trigger, and the muzzle is never pointed at anybody, we are in a great ballpark as far as safety. Guns are always loaded etc.. She was close on that one.. Yes, very important... But I am glad, that everything I've taught her 6 month ago, she can't remember, but what she did glean, was finger off the trigger, and other basic safety rules.
I honestly couldn't ask for all that much more, we are going to go over everything again this week, but I just wanted to say; every female that I have ever taken shooting, remembers "Watch that Muzzle!! Finger off the trigger!!"
So I hope, this encourages everybody to teach someone to shoot; what you teach them, (breathing control, squeezing the trigger, grip etc..) they might not really remember, but we are in good territory as far as gun safety if they remember the safety rules.
Do the world a favor; convert a newbie to the dark side!!
