Girsan Regard M9 Clone

Saw a few posts regarding the fact that in the original 92F, the slide may separate from the frame in case of failure, flying in the face. Is that a potential issue with this model as well? Are there any aftermarket mods to diminish the possibility of this happening?

Wow even the newbies are aware of the "internet lore".. :) However, the FS is what showed issues during fielding our troops. Beretta redesigned the locking block and there has been a failsafe in place for about 30 years now. If its a true copy of the newest generation Beretta than the slide cannot come off even if it splits.

It's not a locking block issue, and the FS models were not at issue as they all incorporate the fix.

Beginning at about the :20 mark

The slide separation/break that happened like 100 years ago was less about a design flaw and more about a bunch of high speed, low drag folks stuffing SMG load ammo into a handgun. For newer shooters yes there was/is ammo they was loaded specifically for use with SMG’s especially back on the WWII/Korea time frame. Point is this issue both happened so very few times and did so by using ammo too hot for the gun. Beretta still addressed the issue with the FS models.

As to the unreliability in the sandbox this came largely from three factors.

-guns rode hard and put up wet.
-Off brand locking blocks as well as the fact that the military due to the way the requisitions worked could not take advantage of Berettas updated blocks.
-Checkmate magazines that had either an incorrect finish or a finish simply not designed for the sandy environment (basically off brand parts again)

Mark my words the SIG M17 will see similar problems over time, as the Beretta did, as the 1911 did, as the Colt SAA..........seeing the trend here. :)

Now all that said I do feel the locking block is a weak link in the Beretta platform but current Gen blocks are plenty beefy and all of them are cheap easy replacements as far as maintenance.

A maintained Beretta 92 using factory spec parts and quality magazines (Berettta or Mec-Gar) is one of the most reliable handguns on earth.

All that said the Girsan is likely very similar since it’s pretty much a copy, I just stand by my known quantity/Extra mag and parts commonality thoughts.

Necro thread:

I have a Girsan M9 clone.

I thought about one when they were first imported by EAA (I think they might have been imported by Chiappa at one point, but that might be another model).

Anyways, the one gunshop that normally gives good info, told me they were based more on the 92F not FS. I dunno, don't really care much.

So I bought one recently, now that they've been in the States for a few years.

Mine is a basic black model, finish is excellent.

The overall quality and fitment was actually better than my early-model-probably-made-by-a-rookie-on-a-friday Tennessee made Beretta 92X.

Shot better than my Beretta too. I sold my 92X because my Girsan is better.

Much better, actually.

If I had a large sample size, I'm sure Beretta will generally be better. But it's not because the Girsan is bad

Oh, and my Beretta mags ran fine.

I don't quite understand the marketing strategy of Girsan , nor do I understand the advantage of the clone ... the market is flooded with used 92s in high condition and at reasonable prices.

Can you point me to one? I'm not seeing them in my region of east Texas.
Edit: Sorry, didn't realize this was a resurrected thread.

To be accurate, it’s been a few years since I bought mine. There was a good selection on sites like Gunbroker at that time.
