I had a chance to briefly speak with my Congressman Devin Nunes today on Ray Appleton's talk show. Devin had met with Rudy Giuliani at last weeks farm show and was pretty much endorsing him for President. Devin has a good record on gun issues and this took me by surprise so I commenced to dialing.

I told him we were very concerned with the latest efforts to reinstate the AWB and asked him his position on it. He stated he was flat out against it. Then I asked him, why he was supporting Giuliani? He told me straight up that when he spoke with Rudy last week, he challenged him on many issues, gun control being one of them. Giuliani said he knows he differs with many conservatives on some issues but was determined to appoint judges cut from the same cloth as Scalia and Roberts if he was elected. Nunes also said that Giuliani "assured him" that he would not support any new gun legislation.

I know that's kind of vague but there you have it.

I learned a long time ago not to trust anything a politician says. George Bush Sr. swore he was against gun control, that didn't work out so well for us.

John Kerry promised he supported the 2nd too...

HOO-WEE!! Good thing I'm wearing my waders, it's gettin' kinds deep round h'yere.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.

When someone is running for public office, never believe what he says until you look at his past record. :scrutiny:

If elected, Giuliani would support "reasonable and sensible" gun legislation. Always has, always will.

George Bush Sr. swore he was against gun control, that didn't work out so well for us

Which issue did he sign in? Clinton had the AWB and the Brady Bill, Regan had the FOPA. I must have missed which one Sr. was involved with? Was a vote split in the Senate while he was VP so he voted?

Well do you really think they don't lie. When I lived in Nj I had congressman Chris Smith tell me at a function in Lakewood NJ he would never sign on to the AWB, well guess what. That weasel who by the way hasn't lived in NJ for about 20 years:barf: or so LIED TO MY EYES.
Oh well just my nickels worth.

No new gun laws?

I don't believe him.
Bill Clinton campaigned as PRO GUN but look what he did to us....

Read between his lines, you don't have to support 'new' gun legislation to re-enact the expired ones. That wouldn't be "new" so he wouldn't be lying.

Well its nice that you got to talk to your rep but beware of the wolf in wolfs clothing.

Devin is a good guy. It was the first chance I've had to speak with him although I've written many times. The radio station this conversation took place on is one of those 50,000 watt blowtorches so people from Tehachapi to Tomales Bay heard Nunes go on the record against any reinstatement of any AWB.

As to Rudy, sure I'm skepticle. But when it comes down to McCain, Rudy or...forgive me...Hillary? I'd love to hear your choices between those three.

...until he gets elected. Then it's back to business as usual for 3 years or so. Pull the sheep's clothing back on for the '12 campaign season, and then revert back to form.

I'll be supporting candidates who didn't suddenly "discover" the right way to vote when they decided to take a stab at the highest office. If Romney or Giuliani get the nod, I'm quite likely to vote for "None Of The Above" or the Libertarian candidate.

A lot will depend on his political advisors. This Zumbo deal showed a whole bunch of folks just what can happen because of the Internet and its blogs.

Not just Giuliani but many other wannabes are going to have to pay attention to groups such as ours which have been taken for granted.

And I've not heard of anybody who ever wanted to be a one-term president.

Or governor, or senator...

Slept through Ruby Ridge and Waco, did we? Reagan put a choke chain on the BATF, Bush Sr. took it off, and whispered, "Sic 'em!" I hated the AWB, but Bush's encouragement of BATF abuses was arguably worse.

thanks Ry, you gave me a good laugh

I would rather have Hillary because she would be an incompetent gun grabber compared to Rudy or John because they would be very good at getting fence sitting rino's to go along.
even rino's are not going to cooperate with Hillary.

What I found funny was your new word "skepticle" ...is that something like "popsicle"?
:neener:

I find it is always good to be sceptical of rino's myself.

I'd be very interested in learning whether he made this "promise" before or after the "Zumbo Affair."

That would be a very interesting statement on the interest candidates have in monitoring forum traffic.

Nunes also said that Giuliani "assured him" that he would not support any new gun legislation.
So a politician (professional liar) told another politician that he "wouldn't support" something that he has supported for his entire political career. If guiliani feels so strongly about this, maybe he should come out and say it himself. . .

Giulliani needs more than vague assurances made privately to someone who someone knows. He needs to come out for improving the situation right there in his home state. He needs to say, flat out, "I will not sign any AWB when I am president. And in my home state of NY, I think it is time for the state to go shall-issue like the rest of the country." And he'll never say things like that.

As to Rudy, sure I'm skepticle. But when it comes down to McCain, Rudy or...forgive me...Hillary? I'd love to hear your choices between those three.

the only way it will come down to those three, is if all the "conservatives" vote for rudy in the primary because they don't think a DECENT politician like Ron Paul can get elected.

if it does come down to those three, i'm voting libertarian.
