I was at my grandparents house today for dinner when my grandma and I got on the subject of handguns. She is a gun enthusiast and has owned guns nearly all her life, and still carries a .38 everywhere she goes at the age of 75. I asked her if I could see her collection, and afterward she handed me her Sig P226 and said I could have it! She's owned it for quite a while, but it's barley been fired and still looks like new. I've never shot a Sig before, but I've heard many good things about them. I can't wait to go out and try it. Is the Sig P226 a pretty good gun?

You're a lucky man I am the only one in my family into guns.

Your grandma sounds like a great woman.

I know I can't believe she just gave me her nicest handgun. She doesn't go to the range really anymore, and since I just turned 21 and like guns she decided to let me have it. It's also an older 226 with the W. Germany stamp which I heard are pretty rare these days.

The P226 is a fine pistol indeed. The early ones (stamped 'made in West Germany) are my favorites; they use the stamped steel slide that is lighter than the later forged units.

Now you need to go learn to shoot it well. :)

Horvath819,

Does your grandma need one more grandkid that's into guns as well?

Thanks guys lol! I will be going out this weekend to try it out, along with my new XDM .40 I will be picking up on Thursday. I was doing some research on the P226, and apparently the Navy Seals have used it since the 80's so it must be an awesome handgun.

I "gifted" myself with a Blackwater Edition (yeah I know right) and it's been a fine shooter. A tad too wide in the grip for me to be using as a carry weapon but it's a fun (and expensive) range toy with six 20-round magazines.

The 226 is a legend, IMO.

It's reliable, accurate, pleasant to shoot, and its design, manufacture and build reflect all the things most of us like in anything that reflects quality.

Does she need any more grand kids, I'm adopatable! Those are sweet pistols, she must be a great granny!

The 226 is a great pistol.

Congrats on the gift! Now y'all are gonna make me go look up what a P226 is, and I'll probably be a-hankerin' for one now.

226 is my favorite DA/SA pistol... price concerns kept me from buying one. Now that they are available at a more reasonable $, I've long since moved on to single action pistols.

OK, I looked up the P226, I think I'm safe, not my style. Doesn't look to me like a pistol a grandmother would own either. I bet she actually bought that for you as a gift, and has just been waiting for you to turn 21! Sly grandma.....

^Yeah maybe your right lol, she's barely shot the gun over the years she's owned it. She is definitely an awesome grandma and I love her to death.

perhaps a 'thank you' will be in taking her to the range...

afterall, now that you have this nice new gift (giver), don't you want to show her off??

It's also an older 226 with the W. Germany stamp which I heard are pretty rare these days.
Not rare. There were plenty made and plenty still out there. It's just that those who have them don't/won't let them go. :D
Oh!... Congratulations on receiving what I feel is an exceptional gun.
