i would like to refinish my Springfield 1911. currently it's your basic stainless with lots of handling scratches( not too deep). is it possible to bead blast and have good results? Considering using two different grades of glass beads. Thanks in advance for your input!

I think a freshly bead blasted pistol looks great but in use it will show marks even worse than a brushed finish. And with a brushed finish you can usually touch it up with scotchbrite. With glass bead it will have to go back in the bead blast cabinet. If you have access or possession of a blast cabinet go for it. I use fairly fine beads, not sure of the size. When done flush it really well and air blast it. Do this several times. The grit will get into every little crevice and greatly accelerate wear if you don't get it all out.

This is true, you will then have shiny scratches against a dull background. If the scotchbright doesn't take out the scratches, try dabbing at it with 400 grit emery cloth, short strokes and go with the grain.

If scratches really bother you, get it hard chromed.
