I just purchased a full sized stainless Colt 1911 in the matte stainless finish.
It has the dreaded "idiot scratch".
Can anyone recommend an easy refinish method for this small spot without creating a "shiny spot" under the slidestop?
I thought maybe a fine emory cloth or ulta fine sandpaper might work since the finish is stainless. Maybe a light bead blast with glass beads to the affected area?
I am not a gunsmith and do not want to worsen the appearance.

Thank you!

I just did one for a friend this week.I taped around the scratch leaving a little open on each side, used 1200 grit sandpaper until the scratch was gone.Leaving the tape on, it was scuffed with different grade steel wools-don't know the grade,it was just laying around in the garage.

After it looked pretty close I took the tape off and blended it in.It wasn't perfect, but someone would have to know that it wasn't like that from the factory.Clean it very good after using the steel wool.
