Hi everyone !,
My G17 with 3 HI-cap mags. seems to be attracking alot of attention lately ! 3 weeks ago I was offered a trade on a Sig Pro and now I am being offered an HK USP 9 or 40C my pick ! What's the deal. I love my Glock, but the HK was sure tempting ! In my opinion they are all about par with eachother, but I like the looks of the HK better then the Sig. I havent decided yet what to do, but which would you pick ? Like I said, I love my Glock, but want to try some thing different and really cant afford and HK or Sig, so a direct trade is prefect ! Am I really being offered something better or is it a lateral trade ? Opinions please...

Thanks,
Ram

I was once offered an even trade... My Glock 23 for a USP40c Stainless! :what:

I said yes IMMEDIATELY, but since the guy was a friend and co-worker, I told him to take my 23 home and make sure he wanted to do it first... He did... and he wasn't, so we didn't. :( But hey, we're still friends! :)

I say DO IT!! If for no other reason than you can ALWAYS buy another Glock!

But I don't think I'd let all 3 full-caps go. Keep at least one. Or if you have 10 rounders too, just let 1 pre-ban go.

Onslaught,
thanks for the reply ! I do have any HK question. Do all Hk have a polygonal barrel ? and what does that get me ? I am a newbie, so I am still learning !

Thanks,
Ram

As far as I understand it, both the Glock & the USP employ polyganal barrels...You should be getting improved accuracy & a warning not to use lead.

As far as the trade goes. I'm a HUGE HK fan but, if you're happy w/ your 17 and you have 3 hi caps w/ it, why trade? What benefit would you be getting? If you really want another poly gun, just shop around and find a good deal on a used one ;)

Glocks are great guns but cost much less than the guns in question. I would question the reliability of that HK and Sig that were being offered for trade. I think most people here wouldn't trade a perfectly reliable HK or Sig down to a Glock. Big question in my head is WHY?

strecharmstrong,
There reason for trading is because Glocks sell better in my neck of the woods better then an Hk or Sig would. The high cap mags. just adds frosting to the deal. The Sig is acctually brand new in box. The HK is used, but is in mint shape. Infact, the barrel seems to have less wear then my G17. By your responce, I take it that you consider either gun a step UP from the Glock which is what I am trying to get some feedback on. The Sig is from a local gun store that cant seem to sell it and the HK is from a pawn shop which also cant move it because people want a Glock.

Ram

The Glock, Sig, and HK are all great reliable guns. If your gun is reliable don't let the internet hype tell you to trash it and go buy "brand X" because it's better. New guns as we know don't always mean reliable even from good brands. If you like the trigger, ergonomics, whatever better on the Sig or HK than I can see why you might change. Resale value in your area clearly points to the Glock. Everyone here should agree that all the guns in question are excellent....Make the choice for yourself on what pushes your buttons and not anyone elses. And by all means try to shoot all three in the same day to compare.

Do what you want to do, but I don't think I would
trade a perfectly good G-17 with 3 hi-cap's for a
SIG-Pro? I would only make this trade for either
the H&K USP; or a SIG-Sauer "Classic P series"
such as the P220, P226, P228, or P229.

i would make the trade for the USP but not the SigPro. i would also ask the fella if he has any pre-ban mags for the USP just to make it even more worth while.

The very early full size USP9s had regular rifling, recoil spring was also not captured. They went to polygonal about a year after their introduction. Not sure if the early full size USP40s were regular rifled or not. AFAIK, the USP45s and all of the compacts, Mark 23, Tactical, Match, etc. have always been polygonal.

I shot a USP in 9mm, 40 and 45, you would have a hard time giving me two of them for one Glock. I just don't like the USP, none of them.

Since it's in mint condition, I'd definitely trade for the USP9. Is it a full-size or a compact? I really like the full-size. If you want hi-caps, you can get USP 15 round mags for $60/ea.
I've owned Glocks, including the G17 and I've owned a couple of USP's, including the USP9 and I prefered the USP.

personal choice...

Both of these pieces offer high quality, my break down follows:

I don't like the trigger safety feel ( XD, Gloch - whomever ), and have always had a preference for DA/SA semi autos.

that said, the USP DA isn't too bad stock, SA is average. Creep is high on the trigger and reset is long for a DA / SA, but still shorter than the Glock. It's not as positive as SOME Glocks, so I think the reset is a wash...

I shoot better with the 2 USP 9's I have better than I've previously shot with Glocks... so far anyway.

Hi caps are a little pricey for the USP 9, $50 - $70 on Gunbroker...

Parts - USP parts have to be obtained from a certified USP armorer.

That said, they have some cool stuff available - the match trigger @ ~$90, w/ adjustable trigger stop - improves the reset & pull. I did NOT like the weaker trigger spring, the reset was worse, so I reinstalled the stock trigger spring, using the 'Match' hammer spring.

Adjustable variant(s) for the USP - DA / SA, decock only, cocked & locked, etc... I've left it in Var 1 (2) w/ ambidextrous safety... This is the most common, so if I ever become disenchanted with it, I'll be able to sell easier.

Also, you can get the Jet Funnel kit to use the USP Expert 18 round mags. Without starting a legality debate, there are mags available without markings.... If the extra round means anything to you... I just use +2 extensions on my 15 rounders...

One thing nice about the Glock, no levers to fiddle with, but dropping the slide - I'm not keen on the Glock slide release...

Thanks everyone ! ,
I think I am going to make an effort to visit an indoor range and rent an H&K and make sure I really like the way it shoots.
I really didnt know my G17 has a poly barrel ! Hey, call me stupid ! Around this area I can get a used H&K USP 9 or 40 for around $4-5 hundred dollars, so no big hurry. I could also easily go into my local gun store and trade up to an H&K for very little money.
Thanks again for the great feedback. I think I will enjoy my G17 and P99 for the time being. Oh, I also have a Neo U22 on layaway ! I even have a BSA red-dot waiting for it !! :)

Thanks,
Ram
