Glock 19 - How do you like yours?

All in all, theyre not too bad.

Okay, right up front, I'll say I like metal firearms. I'm very partial to Colt's 1911 series, and particularly the Commander. After that, I really like the Browning High Power 9mm. And I have an abiding affection for Colt and S&W revolvers, especially their alloy framed .38s.

But, all that being said, I like the Glock 19 far better than I thought I would. I obtained one several years ago, just to have for firearms instruction, and to have a "loaner" for visiting peace officers and my out of state friends. When I set about learning the piece, I found I could shoot it pretty well, with little additional effort. The grip-to-barrel angle doesn't suit me as well as the Colt or Browning, but a few practice draws reminds me of how it's done. ;)

My favorite G19 is a first generation version. I really don't like finger grooves, and I have absolutely NO use for the accessory rail. The pistol is light for its capacity. While a bit thick and blocky, it is reasonably compact.

Before I retired, I even carried on duty occasionally. I used a Fobus paddle holster. It just seemed appropriate: A plastic pistol in a plastic holster. :D

" like 9mm's and am thinking of picking up a G19 for range & some carry. Would probably install aftermarket NS on it.

What are the 19's strong points? Are they reliable, soft-shooting, accurate, easy to maintain? "

You have gotten a lot of response to your questions, haven't you? Since I can't seem to resist, here's one more...

1. Reliable? Yes, very. Exceptionally so.

2. Soft shooting? Well, it's a 9mm. It's a Glock, with their high grip and low barrel axis, so yes.

3. Accurate? Yes, with the factory sights. I like the XS Big Dot sights, myself. Old eyes need a big fat dot to focus on.

4. Easy to maintain? Sure. They're mostly plastic after all. Rust never sleeps, but plastic never rusts.

Enjoy your Glock.

I sold my glock 19 that I had for nearly 10 years last week and no not miss it.

It is a very good gun, just not the gun for me.

Sometimes I am afraid people will want to lynch me if I say the Glock is not my favorite.

In handguns I now have to loves, the CZs and Smith revolvers.

I like the g19 I have. However, I like the S&W 3913TSW I have better. I shoot the G19 is a little more accurately than the 3913, but the 3913 is lighter, a single stack, alloy framed, and my choice for a carry pistol.

I must the the only man in America who has not held or fired a Glock. Sleep good at night too. 1911's for me.:)

My carry gun is a G19 with Meprolight night sights (front dot green, rear dots orange). I think you can get 'em from the factory with Trijicons - seemed to be having a "dry spell" on those when I got mine, so I did it aftermarket.

This was the only modification I made to it til this week. I noticed quite a bit of dust in the backstrap after carrying it for a while, so I installed...

The Plug! :D (sorry to open a whole 'nother can of worms on this thread!)

Oh, and when I bought the plug I also bought myself a combination "Christmas/Election Day" present of a 33-round mag and a 15-round mag with the +2 baseplate installed. Conceals better than I thought....

(the SEVENTEEN rounder of course, not the 33!!! :what:)

All that stuff aside, the meat: A magazine article pointing out all the advantages of Glocks - durability, simplicity, reliability, accuracy - was what got me to looking into one and talking to people. I bought one and I haven't been disappointed yet. It's light, and fairly easy to conceal with the right holster. In my RM Holster Works Low Rider I can wear it all day long and forget it's there. OTOH, in my Uncle Mike's Kydex IWB rig I bought as a "backup" holsder - the holster digs painfully into my side or, well, my butt after a short while!

There's a new issue of Combat Handguns out that I bought for 2 things I glanced at - Ayoob's new article and Walt Rauch's article on several methods of concealing all sizes of Glocks - ya may want to give it a read.

Shooting the gun...well, "soft" to me may not be "soft" to you. I admit that I have rather weak hand strength but don't find the Glock a bother in any way from racking to recoil to takedown. From what I've heard, you WILL want to follow the section of the manual on lubrication. "Just a little dab will do ya!"

Good luck, hope you enjoy the being part of the family! You may also want to check out Glocktalk.com for many more things Glock.

I strongly considered the G19, but ended up with a CZ PCR.

Basically exact same size/capacity, but all-metal and with an external hammer, different grip angle, etc.

I'd say that a Compact (not Sub-Compact) 9mm of good manufacture is a pretty solid purchase for anyone. Small enough to conceal if needed, but large enough to shoot properly. Low recoil, inexpensive ammo, etc.

They're all pretty much much of a muchness.

S&W 3913 is one of the great 9mms out there IMHO. I enjoy my S&W TDA .45 very much. I like S&W's trigger reset better than my TDA Sigs, but don't like the decocker location at all.

I'm all for something simple, reliable and easy to maintain and don't own a Glock yet, and the 19 is a great place to start.

I also own a P99c, Steyr M9-A1 and Sig Pro 2022 9mm and like things about each of them. :)

I personally don't own one, but have shot 2 that friends of mine have owned. I personally can't put a good grouping with one to save my life, and before anyone responds nasty to that last line I can put good groups with other pistols. I guess it goes to prove that you just have to fit right with the gun. Both of my friends shoot great with them, and i've shot great with other plastic pistols. I'd say try to find one you can rent first. But that's just my 2 cents. : )

A G19 w/ trijicons was my first Glock. I would never consider selling it. It is a gun that just does so many things well. Get one, share in the joy. Regards,

NS

Anyone here ever tried the 8lb or the 12lb trigger, if so did it kill you accuracy?

BTW I am thinking of buying a G19 myself and after doing much research I have found they are probably more ugly, reliable and durable than any other gun on the planet, kinda like a bull dog aint pretty but when the SHTF you want them by your side.

I'll take the weight in ammo not steel.

The Glock 19 is great!

Steel guns will be here 50 years from now. BWAHAHAHAHAHW! I'm here now I will not be 50 years from now. My granchildren can BUY there own.

I love mine. I carry it all the time and shoot great with it. I really prefer the second gen guns because there is a lack of finger grooves.

..that is a 20 round magazine and I do not carry with this magazine.

Do you think I i purchased a glock today that it would still be here 50 years or will the polymer actually become britle and dry rot like plastics?

Got a 19!

:)

Picked up a new G19 today, just gonna give it a quick clean & lube and get out to the range ASAP.

Looking forward to seeing how it compares to my Steyr M9-A1 as I see these pistols often compared, and they're pretty similar overall.
