Ok, again, I don't wanna start a war here and I m sure there are plenty of posts, but I am having hard time in making my decision. I have purchased an XD9 and I love it.I already paid for another new XD9 (melonite), but I am thinking about getting the Glock 19 instead.

One of the things I don't like about Glocks is the grip angle, but I m sold in the fact that they work. The XD9 in the other hand is great shooter with good ergonomics, I also like the safety features.

Thinking about selling the used XD9, after getting the new one, why should I get a Glock?, or the XD?, probably keep both?:scrutiny:

Regards,

I prefer Glock over XD, but I had a XD that was great. I would say get the Glock only for the reason that you already have the XD.

The G19 is the nicest gun in the Glock line up. Points well, shoots well, hides well and is just a blast t o use. I really like the G19
I use to rent a XD9 a couple years ago and really liked it until it broke...and then its replacment broke :(
So, if I had to pick between the two, I'd go w/ the Glock :D

well as everyone knows i definetly prefer the xd over any other handgun, and especially the glock. i was in the simular situaition when i bought my glock 19.it was there and i got a great deal on it. butI wish now that I wouldn't have even messed with getting the glock, but it was a learning experience, and now i know.
I would say get the Glock only for the reason that you already have the XD.
I disagree, the exact reason you should get another xd, not because, it is a glock, and i know everyone likes to expand there collection, but in this instance i would suggest that you get another xd, why? you ask, well you have already said that you don't like the grip angle on the glocks, that Is reason enough right there, you are familiar with the xd already, and the glock you would have to get used to if it was possible for you, i know that wasn't possible for me, not only is the grip angle bad, but the girth is also a henderance to me, because i have small hands. I do like the glock pistols but they just don't work for me. I would suggest that maybe instead of the same model xd get a different one this time around. Ie i have a 4" service model .40 and next i will be getting the sub- compact model when I sell my glock 19.

I am by no means trying to keep you from getting a glock, but I just don't want yo to get it and be unhappy with it like i was, you might love it and end up liking it better than the xd, :what: but i will try to save you any headache if possible. again you are familiar with the xd's already, and there are things about the glock you dislike, i think those are prime reasons enough to stay xd!

Yeah I agree that if you are happy with how XD is set up, and don't like the grip angle of GLOCK, stick with what works for you.

I feel like GLOCK is the superior design, and is configured in the way I prefer, but if it didn't fit me, or if I didn't like it not having a grip safety, firing pin indicator, loaded chamber indicator, uncaptured recoil spring, etc, I'd go with the XD. Apparently they have caught up with GLOCK on a tennifer equivalent treatment, now having remedied their finish issues.

Even though im new here, Ive had both an XD and Glock 19 and me personally I felt like the XD was a piece of crap and loved my Glock. BUT, its your life buddy. If you cant shoot a gun as good as another then dont own it. If you feel 100% comfortable with XD stick with XD. If you can protect yourself 100% with a bow and arrow then carry that. Everybody has their reasons why this gun is better than that gun but it all depends on how well you can hold it, aim it, and shoot it.

I had a Taurus Millienium 9MM I bought, loved it. The grip the simplicity....Just couldnt shoot it. Wasnt acurate at all. So I gave it to my mother in law. She shoots 2 inch groups with it lol. I think at some point you should get a glock cause IMO they are a top 3 must have gun to own. Along with a 1911 and a Sig.

Personaly I dont think we should go around calling certain guns crap, Springfiled knows what there doing, and there are alot of people on THR that have Glocks and XD's.

I dont think either weapon is "crap" I have had the G19 and it worked well as did the the XD9 I used to own. I think you should stick with what you can shoot best and feels the best to you, if it is your carry piece then carry the one you feel most comfortable to save your life and that you can use best to save your life. But niether one is "crap" I have seen Glocks break too. I have owned both currently own the XD.45 acp been satisfied with all 3.

Glocks are among the top 3 you must own, what statistics have you been looking at:scrutiny: , I think thats more of personal opion.

Personally I'm a big glock fan, but as I notice trying to bring other shooters over to the Glock side is not easy. The grip angle and the trigger throw off a lot of people, I think the XD is good for people who don't like glocks. Both are good guns, but some people just love glocks, while other hate them. My advice is to rent one and see what you think, before you buy.

XD 9 Reliability it's there.

For those that doubt the XD-9's reliability, read this torture test that was established by the Glock 17 when it came out.

While it doesn't have the Glock's track record of performance, it definitely meets the threshold for performance. Give it time, and it will probably be on par. I have 2 two of these, the XD 40 and 45ACP. These fit my hand, while the Glocks do not.

welcome to THR

I hear people say here and there that they don't like the xd's but nobody has ever said they they felt like they were a piece of crap, please let us know what you thought was so crappy about it. that Is one thing you should learn on these forums, if you make an outrageous coment like that than you need to explain, and having some first hand experience would be nice, and not some of the hear say stuff that we hear all the time. i honor your opinion but just making that bold of a coment is crazy, without and explenation.

Really you cant go wrong with either. But IMO, I think the glock is superior. It has a bertter finish and a PROVEN TRACK RECORD! Thats the main thing. Personally I thing the G19 is the best all around handgun money can buy. With that being said, I have a couple of freinds, actually two, with XD9's. They dont have any complaints.

Great Question with no Answer

Since you've got the opportunity, go ahead & buy the G19. Until then, you're only comparing a gun you own (XD) with your opinions about the gun you don't. Handle, load, carry & shoot BOTH for a while, side-by-side. THEN you'll be in a much better position (than any of us) to decide which suits you best.

They're both quality handguns with a strong following. I'm going to tell you all the reasons why I carry a G19 along with what I don't like about the XD. But I don't OWN an XD. An XD fan will do exactly the same thing while reversing the brand of choice. And, likely, he won't own the GLOCK either.

Do us a favor...buy the G19 & tell us (from YOUR perspective) the "+" & "-" of BOTH models. Regardless of which one you enjoy the least, there's always a buyer for it. It's not like your stuck with an unwanted pistol.

Well, I must admit, for your first post that is a remark you will have to prove. While we all have gun preferences, I too haven't seen many members label a particular gun a piece of crap. I've had issues with some name brand gun makers, but I describe the problem(s) and how I attempted to correct it with the customer service department. In fact, I'm researching the XD9 subcompact, but if they are a piece of crap, please let me know and I'll look elsewhere.

I had both (Glock 19 and XD9 subcompact) and loved them both. After getting used to the XD I felt it's quality was on par with GLOCK even though it doesn't have the track record YET (hasn't been around as long). I haven't had any problems with either GLOCK or S.A. They are different feeling guns considering how similar they appear and measure out. If you don't like the grip angle of the GLOCKs stick with the XD.
As for customer service, I haven't dealt with GLOCK's yet, but I called Springfield because I have the early model with the finish issues and they said send it in and they'll refinish it for free (I'm not the original owner either), so that's pretty good so far. AFAIC you can't go wrong with either gun.

After owning a G19 and shooting the son's XD-9 I would say the G19 is a better fit for me. I like the Glock trigger over the XD-9 due to the funky reset on the Springer platform.

they are both fine weapons, Glocks just do not "feel" good in my hand, so just pick whichever fits best in your hand, the relaibility issue is moot

My first XD was a POS. It rusted within a few days, had a few FTFs and a the feed ramp was all jacked up. But Apparantly they fixed that. And I even got myself a XD9 compact. I should have been more clear. I wasnt saying Springfields were POS or crap cause I agree no gun maker is crap. Just some guns are crap. I had a crap XD 357 sig. I just got a XD 9 compact few days ago shot 200 through it, felt pretty good. Again I wasnt attacking anybody or Springfield as I do want one of their 1911,s simply stating that my XD was an utter dissapointment

I have had 2 XD-9's and 2 XD.45ACP's - "have had" being the operative words.

I also own a Glock 19. I would not call the Glock 19 a tack driver...but it shoots better than any XD I ever owned.

Neither of them holds a candle to a SiG or an HK...or a S&W for that matter...

And to the one poster, I respect ya, but I usually never ever rely on a persons opinion on a handgun. Usually lol. I dont go by hearsay. I go by with I have and what ive dealt with. At the time I got my XD Ihad my Glock 19, classic great great gun, 45 bersa thunder, now that was a pretty bad gun, and couple revolvers. I got the 357 cause the guy I did business with said he had a few problems with them and customers and would give me a great deal. It was an unbelievable deal, and I was aware of the problems the first gen had. I bought it and sure enough I had problems. But Im not like, and I do hate the types, that have a problem with a certain gun and then say oh it was a POS and im never gonna buy Taurus, or Sig, or SW ever again. I think thats foolish. Every gun company puts out a lemon every once and awhile. And Id be an idiot if I thought a gun I bought years ago wasnt upgraded and made better, XD, and I was right. The current line are getting supurb ratings and their sub compacts, are better than glocks IMO. Just because the grip feels better

The only reason I have considered moving away from the Glock to the XD is the Glock's grip angle. For me it is so different that any pistol other than Glock just doesn't point naturally if I am use to the Glock. If you choose the XD then your Sigs, HKs, 1911s, etc would all point more natural. Or just go all Glock.

Good luck, Monty

The Glocks are more customizeable than XD's. The XD's just stay the way they are out the box, like them or hate them. The Glocks can change trigger pull weight, length of pull, overtravel, and reset. Many companies out there also specialize in grip reshapening, shortening, and even metal frames are available giving an owner the grip angle of a 1911. There is a limitless number of configurations that a person could play with to make it fit them, while the XD is stuck being an XD.

I dunno.. My buddy has a Glock 19 and we go to the range often and trade guns back and forth. We had a little competition at the range. We both gave each other 5 rounds and ran the target back to 25 yds. I put all 5 rounds in the 10 ring with my XD and he was able to put 3 in the 10 ring. The guns are equally accurate IMO. Honestly, I'd rate them both equally. Get whatever one feels better to you.

Cool! Another Glock Vs XD thread, try shooting both. I shot both before I bought the XD. Price and ergonomic won me over. Both are excellent pistols. Customizing, the glock been around for a lot longer and has a bigger following of cause it has more aftermarket parts.

Ethereal, I've had a trigger job (adjusted trigger pull weight) with overtravel adjustment on my XD and replaced my guiderod and recoil spring with a Don's model @22 lbs. for a bit less perceived recoil. Are these things you claim I cannot do with my XD or am I reading your post wrong?
