My decision on XD9 vs. Glock 19! **UPDATED with target pics**

Just brought this home today. The XD9 was $428 and the Glock 19 was $519. The grip saftey, the better feeling grip and SA's lifetime warrenty sold me on the gun. Anybody else have an XD?

Will be taking it out tomorrow. I bought some XD40 mags because I learned on the HS2000 forum that you can fit 15 9mm rounds in a 40 magazine. The guys at the shop acted like I was comitting a crime by doing this, but i'm pretty sure it was posted from the ATF site that you are allowed to use a magazine as long as it is UNALTERED. Opinions? Tyler

I have both XD9 and G19. Far as I'm concerned the G19 gets the nod. My XD9 has an unbelieveably tight chamber (maybe slightly undersized, I don't know - I'm still experimenting with factory loads). Accuracy is about even. I don't care much for the grip safety.

XD

I've got the Subcompact 9MM.

That little gun is a hoot and the more you shoot it the better the trigger gets. Unfortunetly its going back to SA for a Front sight that wants to drift. I may take it out the range today and get some rounds though it.

Congratulations BigBlue, I expect you'll be quite happy with your new toy. Mine replaced my Glock, and I haven't looked back.

Nope, no need here. I do believe I would have sprung for the SS slide XD knowing the blued ones don't have a great track record for durability. They are not so easy to find, however.

The more I shoot my G19, the more I like it. The lack of manual safety features was a bonus. Enjoy your XD9.

New Baby XD-40

I'm soon to be a daddy to an XD-40 (sob-sob)... I'll let y'all know when the stork brings me the baby.

I'm so excited!

Huh?!

""good choice..the grip safeties are a major plus on the XD's........."":scrutiny:

I was under the impression that the best safety was located between your ears?!

Not to knock anyone here, but WE as gun owners should never rely on an external safety device. We should rely on good habits.

Reckon he might have been using "the safety located between his ears" when he made that statement?

"Using the safety located between the ears" might actually mean picking the safer of two designs, you reckon?

"Using the safety between the hears" has become a mantra for some people (usually "true-believers" in a particular brand). "Using the safety between the hears" does not negate the use of other safety devices. When their foolishness is taken to its logical extreme, it would mean carrying SA and DA revolvers cocked, carrying SA/DA autos (e.g., SIGs and Berettas) cocked, disabling the grip safety and carrying your 1911s cocked and unlocked, removing the trigger safety from Glocks, etc.

Is that to say we should start carrying cocked and unlocked? After all, who needs a safety? Unfortunately I am not that perfect.

Yes the Grip safety is one of the primary reasons I went XD-sub over Glock sub.

Calm yourself...I am just saying that we should never RELY on external safety devices. RELY on your good habits and brain. I am not knocking your choice. Did you ever see me post to carry "cocked and unlocked"...? Just be sensible....Why does everyone get so bent out of shape?

Hi folks,

Bought an xd-9 this past weekend and I'm in love. The only handguns I found remotely comfortable before were 1911s and rugers p95 and 97. Now, I'm seriously considering trying an xd in 40 and, if I like it, trading in my 1911. At the very least I'm going to get a second xd9 for the wife. We couldn't get over how easy it is to shoot accurately and quickly.

I'm holding out a little longer, but I think I'm going to have to go for an XD soon. To complicate matters, I recently went in to the store to get a Springfield XD Tactical 9, but I came away with a full size HK USP 9. I've fired the HK a few times now, and it's nice, but I suspect I'd have been happier with the XD. Unfortunately I now have about $900 invested in the HK (gun, LEM trigger, high-cap mags), so I'm a little reluctant to give up on it. Also, I got a CZ 75 SA shortly after the HK, and there is no comparison really. The CZ easily outguns the HK, at least in my hands. The XD grip is very CZ like, whereas the HK is not, so I think the XD is in my future.

Oh yeah, Glocks don't work for me at all - the grip angle is all wrong and I don't like finger grooves (nothing a file probably couldn't fix) - so although I know the Glock is a great gun, it just won't be a great gun for me.

Good Luck!
