My decision on XD9 vs. Glock 19!

Check your front sight for any drift after each range session. My front sight started pulling loose after about 1K rounds of ball and 100 rounds of Gold Dots. The front sight on my slide is so loose that after 20 rounds it starts migrating.

Why does everyone get so bent out of shape?

Well, your post came off(At least on this end) as a little condescending. And you are right that we shouldn't rely on manual safeties... but no one said we should either.

someclever..

Trading in a 1911 for a polymer gun? Heresy. Blasphemy. Worse, actually. Please reconsider. XDs are nice guns, but they're not worth trading in a 1911 for. (unless it's a Llama or something that shouldn't be called a 1911, or you're disposing of a lemon jam-o-matic)

I'm sure if you asked this forum what was the one gun they wished they never traded away you'd get scores of "my old 1911" replies.

Mace sez:

Calm yourself...I am just saying that we should never RELY on external safety devices

Mace, you need to take your own advice.

The original statement you commented on was:

the grip safeties are a major plus on the XD's.........

So, the original poster thought the grip safety was was a good idea. He didnt say anything else, and did not imply that unsafe gun handling was ok because of the grip safety.

I have an XD9 and an HS2000. I "spent" a little extra and had Robar do a "Norton Special" on my HS2000. This consists of NP3 applied to everything but the frame. Normal cost would have been $150, but I did it during an internet 20% off so I only paid $120. Not only did I get a great finish on all metal parts, everyone who handes that pistol and tries the trigger asked"who did the trigger job?" That is a side benefit of NP3. As I type this Robar is having a 15% off special until May 31st so I'm going to box up and send them my XD9 soon.:)

Woo Hoo! Good choice!

I'm still really enjoying mine! No problems whatsoever, and it's a great shooter. I really want one of the 9mm's with the longer barrel. I hope you like your new pistol!

Here's a pic of mine:

IMHO The XD destroys the G19 or any other glock for that matter.
I've shot just about every Glock made I even owned a G20 & G19, The G20 was/is the best that Glock has to offer. But once I seen the XD and shot it I dumped the Glocks and picked up the XD. And I was a die hard Glock lover.

No offense to Glock owners. Even if you're shooting over-priced turds.:neener:

I'm in the same boat right now, debating between a Glock 19, or an XD9, service model. I will definitely be looking for the SS slide, as I don't want to have to think about any rusting problems.

So far, the finish on the Glocks seems to be a plus. Also, the horror stories about Glocks that I have heard, makes me want one. By horror stories, I mean complete abuse to the gun, and it keeps on banging away.

I like the feel of the XD more, and the lifetime warranty, and that it's cheaper.

I will probably end up getting the XD, but until I'm sure, I keep going back and forth, and it's getting to be a drag... :scrutiny:

Enjoy your XD9! I've put well over 3000 rnds through mine with absolutely no problems. :) I've just switched lubricants from CLP to Militec-1 and still no problems.

"the safer of two designs"

Please Lord...give me strength:barf:

But...since you like the grip safety...you made a good choice.

Just don't start twirling it on your finger because of that nice grip safety;)

Well I've finally taken the XD plunge! Last weekend I picked up an XD-9 Service, today I got an XD-9 Tactical, and tomorrow the stainless XD-9 Service should arrive. Now if only I can find an XD Tactical Pro...

I was going to try to stick with the HKs, but they just didn't have the feel of the XD. The HK grip angle isn't quite right for me, and the bore axis is very high, which made recoil seem more pronounced to me. Even with the LEM trigger installed, the HK trigger pull wasn't as good as my new stock XD. So, the HKs are gone, and the XDs are in...

I think the Springfield XD is a superb design, and it just works better for me.

I think you will like it. I went out to buy a Glock 26 and came home with an XD9 sub instead. I liked the rail, the GS and the way it felt. Plus I saved $100.

Holy Crap! I just went and shot my new XD-9 Tactical; this thing rocks! I fired a couple mags just to get a feel; then I got serious for a moment. Third mag, 10 yards, present and fire (no holster to draw from yet), shooting from index only (target focus - no sight reference), seven rounds, rapid fire... all seven shots went into two inches! This gun points and shoots so naturally and easily, I am absolutely amazed! Anyone else have similar results? Now I really can't wait to get my hands on an XD Tactical Pro!

Alright. It's official. I'm getting an XD9 Service Bi-Tone as soon as I get the cash. I'll be sure to post pics. :D

Go for it!

The Glock reputation for simplicity and ability to withstand abuse kept calling to me. But, the grip angle is just all wrong for me, so I couldn't convince myself to buy one. So, when the XD came out, and I read the grip was fashioned with the 1911 grip in mind, well now we're talking. However, I admit my first XD experience was luke warm at best. I rented an XD-40 Service at the range, and put a box of ammo through it. I really didn't like it very much, so I didn't pursue the idea of buying one. Looking back I'm sure it was because of the caliber and not the weapon. About 6-7 weeks ago I shot a friends XD-9 Service, and I liked that a whole lot better. So, I decided to take the plunge, and now I have three! The Service model will make a great all-purpose gun, but that Tactical model... that will make an awesome range and competition gun!

Good Luck!

Ok, had to register just to reply to this post. What i picked for my first hadngun:

I recently purchased my first handgun, the choice was XD9 or G19. I actually went to an indoor range and rented a g19... at 60 ft. i was on paper with all my shots, and at 15 ft actually got some good groups. Which i thought was pretty good for my first time shooting a pistol. No XD9's available to rent.

Ended up with the XD9 for the following reasons:

1.) It has safeties. I know, the most important safety is between your ears, but i haven't had years of gun safety training beaten into my brain, so the fact that there is a grip safey, a chamber loaded indicator, and cocked indicator is reassuring.

2.) The fact that new 15 round mags are available (XD40 mags) at a reasonable price. Paying 60-80 bucks for a used mag... ugh.

Whent to the range and discovered:

1.) I shoot the Glock better. Don't know why but i am having trouble getting used to the XD. Maybe I just need more practice.

2.) EVERBODY wants to try the XD. It has given me the opportunity to try LOTS of different handguns as I trade with people. I don't think the G19 would be as much of a novelty for other shooters. (of course, now that i've shot a few, i'm thinking of a .45....)

3.) Everybody (so far) who has tried it and has some experience with handguns, shoots the XD9 REALLY well. One guy was picking off clay targets at 25 yards with ease... not missing a single shot. He'd never shot the the XD before. He was impressed with it.

4.) 600-1000 rounds through it so far and not one failure. Only used 115 gr FMJ so far. Going to try some different loads tomorrow and see how it likes various ammo.

So, on the whole, i'm pleased with the XD9 as a first handgun.
