I was at the range today, to put some cor-bon through my glock 9mm. I have put some through before, but never loaded with a full mag, had put some on top of fmj. Anyways when I loaded the mag full with cor-bon, on the second to last shot, it would fire fine like always, but when it went to eject and strip the last round up, instead the last round ejected with the empty casing. This only happened when the mag was loaded with cor-bon. If I put one fmj in 1st, and then loaded the rest of the mag with the cor-bon, it did not have this problem. Has anyone else experienced this before? What might be the problem, is it that the corbon is shorter?

Yep, I've found the Corbon 9s to be about as stubby as they come. Never had a major problem with 'em in my G17 or Kahrs tho. Just the same, I plan to shoot up all the old stuff for practice and run with new Powerball for carry. Check out Corbon's web site for details. Or maybe Federal: EFMJ (Expanding Full Metal Jacket) and I bet such probs go away.

Like Preacherman, I've had no problems with Corbon 115 gr +p JHP in my 3rd gen. Glock 19.
IRC I've used them with ten round mags but not high caps.

That's weird. I've never had issues with Cor-Bon and my Glock 19. Check your recoil spring for wear, and your mag feed lips as well.

just my luck I have a problem that no one else does. I am using factory ten round mag. I have two mags but only brought one to the range, next time there I will have to try the other mag and see if that is the problem.

I have a 1st generation Glock 17 with Glock magazines and it will not function reliably with the Cor-Bons. I have no idea why. It will eat everything else, even the dreaded "lead" reloads.

Interesting - - -

Just a question for diagnostic purposes. ;)

Have you tried loading another brand of cartridge as last in the magazine, beneath some Cor-Bons, to see if problem is still there? It might well be that the problem is with that particular magazine.

In the same vein - - - Does this problem occur with any OTHER magazines? And, yes, I understand the cost of premium ammunition. Shooting up a lot of Cor-Bon for testing purposes could get pricey.

Best,
Johnny

johnny,
yes, I put in one s&b fmj 1st and then the rest with cor-bon, and it worked fine everytime I did that.

Not all ammo will perform reliably with all guns or magazines. Sometimes things just don't want to fit right.

Looks like you found out one bad combo the hard way.

Move on to another cartridge.

Problem is, you're talking to a gun enthusiast. If he's anything like me rationality goes out the window, and the problem HAS to be solved. I've spent more than my fair share of time doing things that didn't need to be done, like polishing the flats on a perfectly good Colt 1991 just because it was raining out and I was bored.

dsk,
Although I am newer to hand guns, I think just the way you do! I am a machinists by trade and do mainly airospace work. To me, everything has to be perfect!!

IMO, I'd change the magazine spring to a Wolff's +P spring. This seems to solve a lot of these types of problems. Seems like there's not enough tension holding the cartridge in place with the increased recoil may cause the round to shake loose.

If you do aerospace work and am a machinist, then you know that not every part fits together. Guns and ammo are all manufactured within specs. -sometimes when you put two items together that are at the opposite ends of specifications, it may not work reliably. Sounds like you found one.

Sturgeon...I had a G19 that was a slut (took everything), except CorBon 115gr.HPs...absolutely wouldn't feed them (FTF). Chalked it up to the short OAL of the round.

PS. I'm an anal-retentive Glock armorer, so my springs/parts were all up to spec!

They are the 2183 followers right?
This is a common problem with tht e2183 followers. Send them in to Glock and they'll send you new ones.
:)

Yep you need some new followers. 9mm3 or 9mm4's are what you want. They will run you about a dollar a piece I think.
