I used to winter carry my 21 in an owb holster under a vest, but iwb was very uncomfortable with the cheap holster I was using. I loved the gun, but the glock 23 i had carried better. Tried a 22 also, and while thinner, it isn't really smaller than the 21. So owb they work, but you need some loose shirt or jacket over it. I loved the 21 for a camping and hiking gun though..

Double stack 1911. Have a Para 14-45 . One of the older ones before quality control went downhill. Love it . Feeds everything . Picked it up used for $600.00 There are many double stack 1911 45acp pistols to chose from . Will cost more than a glock. The Glock would be a good choice as well. Pros and cons to both. Grip circumference will be similar.

In Oregon I Chest carry a Glock 21 while riding a motorcycle. I have a very light and thin Kydex OWB holster for it that conceals well under anything also. This rig is actually my rough duty sport choice of side Arms, I have a very good tuned one. I would not EDC one , or any Glock as I stopped carrying a G26 because I wanted more safties so went to a .40 Shield for EDC , which I consider the .BIC lighter of EDC weapons :)

The Glock 21 is a great pistol, but its also a great big pistol. I have one myself I carry as a sidearm in black bear territory. The G21 has a pretty chunky slide, and the grip goes around a magazine double stacked with 13 rounds of 45. Its not really meant to be hidden or even carried discreetly. its meant to be in a duty holster on the belt of a police officer or a military service member, along with all the other stuff these people carry on a duty/war belt. Also, 14 rounds of 45 weighs exactly twice as much as 7 rounds of 45- considerable gross weight in ammo when you consider they are usually 230 grains of projectile (exactly twice the dead weight if they were 9mm rounds- typically 115 grain projectiles). If you are wanting a Glock 45 for concealed carry, the G36 (single stack 45) is actually meant for this task, but you get no increased rounds from your 1911. The Glock 30 is 10 rounds (I think) but has the fatter grip, just not as "long" as a 21.

Good assessment of the 21. I owned a 21. When I looked at the 30 and 36 side by side I opted for the 30. Not that much bigger than the 30, holds 10 rds, and can use the 13 Rd mags from the 21.

I carried a Glock 21 as a duty weapon in a Safariland Police Duty Holster everyday for about 5 years.
Fantastic pistol!
I still have it as a night stand gun.
I did carry it concealed occasionally when I could wear a jacket but felt it was on the big side for concealed or off duty carry.
Back then I carried a Colt Combat Commander off duty as it concealed better.
Maybe a Glock 36 or 30S would be the way to go?
Maybe you could conceal the Glock 21 better then I could with my 6 foot 185 lb frame?
Either way it’s an excellent pistol.

I had a Gen 2 G21 that I picked up as a police trade. Something under $400, IIRC. I found that I really liked it. It was a big ol' pussycat to shoot. I just never found a niche for it. It didn't fit neatly into any USPSA division, and I'm already geared up for Single Stack. I shoot SS because I like 1911s, and I stick w/ 1911s because, since I shoot SS, I've got a ton of muscle memory built around the platform. I can shoot Glocks, and like them quite a lot, but it takes about a week or so to transition back and forth between platforms, and that just wasn't worth the effort to me. It got sold at some point, unfortunately.
