I am thinking of getting a Glock 21. I was in the LGS the other day and I was comparing the 21 vs the 21 sf although the sf was a Gen 3 and the ^sf was a gen 4 and I want a Gen 4. I could not tell a lot of difference. Is the difference that noticeable.

The Gen 4 is basically the same as the SF grip-size wise. Both have slimmer grips than the basic previous generations of G21.

Yes, the SF Gen 3 is most pleasing to medium sized hand closely followed by Gen 4 with no back strap attached.

I have a G21SF gen 3. The SF sands for short frame which refers to the reach from the back strap to the trigger. This isn't an issue with the Gen 4 guns because they come with replaceable back straps. This allows the shooter to select the back strap that suits his hand size. Another difference between the Gen 3 and Gen4 guns is the use of MIM parts and a different finish on the slide.

The key difference between full size Glock GIII and GIV guns besides back straps and grip finish is the counter recoil recoil spring system present in GIV guns. If you want MIM free Glock you must buy something made before ca. 2007.
