glock 22 vs XD vs M&P

For me, that's the XD. The Glock is pointing up at the sky somewhere.
That's why I have an XD and not a Glock (I found out about other XD features I prefer only after I bought it).
I don't think there's anything especially wrong with any of them. They're all good pistols. I liked the S&W a lot when I handled one, too, but I already owned the XD.

I have the full size M&P 40 with night sights. It was my first gun purchase and I can't say anything bad about it. It has 3 interchangeable grips, which I think the XD has as well, not 100% on that though. I wasn't a huge fan of the Glock's grip, it was really square/blocky and didn't feel right to me. I also got mine during S&W get 2 free mag promo so that may have swayed my decision a little bit. I was also naive and didn't find out about this board until after I bought mine brand new, which was really expensive to me. Don't be afraid to look at the used market and make sure to try to shoot all of them before you buy.

SO many LE agencies worldwide use glock. They are perfect. The best gun at any price.
i think the Croats did a great job in designing the XD, with the XDm being even nicer looking...less blocky
Glock was stagnate for too long, but most issues with the G22 should be addressed in the upcoming 4th Gen gun...some don't like it's European grip angle
i believe S&W has corrected their initial problems, but i just can't get used to their wavey cocking serrations

My preference...
I prefer the M&P, the XD, and the XDm over the Glock. I still like Glocks, but I prefer fully supported chambers and the ergonomic of all three of these pistols over the Glock.

Here it is. This is THE TEST.
Fire a bunch of bullets of any quality in each weapon.
The one which goes "bang" EVERY TIME you want it to shoot is THE ONE.
GLOCKS are butt-ass ugly...so ugly, in fact, my dogs run when I pick one up. BUT, they shoot and shoot and shoot. GLOCK is soon to deliver a new pistol with "improvments" but it will still be ugly and I hope it will still shoot and shoot and shoot. We shall see.
The same is true of the Springfield. Seems there was a torture test done followed by about 5,000 rounds and it ran like crazy.
The S&W is getting a fine reputation too as it gets into the public and LE put them to use.
Find one which fits your hand, "looks" where you are looking and goes "bang" all the time and you have found the pistol for you.
It will not be the pistol for everyone but WHO CARES? Let them find their own way as did you.

Try to find the opportunity to shoot each if you can. Then get the one that feels and shoots the best for you. You won't be going wrong with any one of the three. I used to have a Glock, they are great guns. I presently have an XD and M&P, I enjoy and trust them both. They are different but all good guns.

Between the three it's apples to apples to apples. I would just get the one you like best. All three are great guns that will serve you well.
There's no such thing as "perfect" and "best at any price" is utterly silly to claim about anything. There are far better guns available for, say, $2500 -- better for some people, and some purposes.
Glock is only "perfect" on their posters and fanboy t-shirts. The same could be said about any mechanical device, and any other gun.

i like the xd and have had a chance to shoot a couple, but i find them a bit top heavy.
the m&p fits my hand( and maybe yours too) better than the glock. there is a strong case for the quality of the smith being just as good or better than the other two. m&p wins in my book.

there is no other polymer handgun out there that i shoot, train with and love more than the xd. i have a service model .40 and with over 17,000rds i couldn't be happier. i own glock, but hey i got a good deal on it, and i have shot other poly guns, and the xd is simply the best for me.
are you referring to my earlier post?
it's not Glock issues, it's specifically G22 issues
the unsupported case webbing issue has been addressed, their latest issue is function failure with mounted weapon lights...it affects the flex of the frame...they have a stop gap "answer", but the real fix will be addressed in the 4th Gen at SHOT

That does not really explain...
If you look at a Glock you will notice that the receiver forward of the trigger guard makes contact with the frame. This is by design. If you attach an accessory on the rail that causes the frame to straighten and not make contact it can lead to feeding issues, much like limp wristing a 1911 .45. If you don't attach anything than there is no issue.

9mmepiphany is right. I know of an entire department that had this very issue and was very unhappy with Glock. They purchased new glocks, lights and new holsters for everyone on the department. Simply because they were making it mandatory to carry the glock with the light mounted. They had so many failures on the range during qualifications they stopped the issue of the new gear and backed off on the mandatory rule they were trying to enforce.
The one thing I will say is Glock had people there within a day to evaluate what was going on and was implementing fixes. Unfortunately for this line of duty to many of the officers said it felt like a duct tape fix and really caused them some emotional stress on will this glock perform when I need it to. Even with the fix the department backed off the mandatory mounting of the light.
I will say though there is a lot of uncomfortable officers out there now even with the light not being mounted. So much so the department has been bombarded by request of officers to carry their own and go to a M&P.
I am not pushing S&W M&P because I have only shot one a few times and do not own one. I just wanted to reiterate 9mmepiphany's comments in that Glock has a serious issue on their hands now, something that is not getting a lot of publicity.

well, here's some good news: you really can't make a bad decision here. all three are great pistols that have proven reliable.
find the one that fits best in your hand and buy it.
that said, i'm slightly partial to the xd over the glock. i prefer the trigger, and like the grip safety.
but you really can't go wrong here.
