I am looking for a 9mm for daily carry and am torn between the G26 and Kahr pm9. I own a G17 already and have nothing but good things to say about it so I am leaning towards the G26. I have no experience w/ Kahr but have read good reviews on Kahr firearms. Any experience from people that have owned these firearms for carry would be appreciated.

I have both and carry the G26 in cooler weather, PM9 when I'm in shorts & T-shirt.

I tend to go for the PM9 more often than not.

I generally carry the G26. It's a little bigger, but has 10+1 and it has never failed me. The PM9 is nearly a true pocket gun and is a joy to carry, but I've not found it quite as trustworthy as my Glocks.

The Kahr is much easier to carry all the time (especially under a thin t-shirt in the summer). Mine has been 100% reliable. It's also very comfortable to shoot and has a nice smooth trigger. I've carried a G26, and it's a nice gun, but I prefer the Kahr for every day carry.

I have a Kahr PM9. It is awesome to carry. My buddy bought a Glock 26 to carry, convinced it was superior and that I wasted money because the Glock 26 was significantly cheaper.

His gun is never carried. It sits in his glove box 24/7.

I'd spring for the Kahr PM9, spend the extra couple hundred and have a gun that actually meets your carrying needs.

I love the G26 but have not been able to shoot the PM9 yet, so I'm bias. All I hear is great things about the PM9 just requires some break-in time.

I forgot to add that I also have an LCP currently as my daily carry pistol and am happy w/ the LCP for summer carry so I am willing to go a little bigger for winter carry. I do not like to carry ITWB I only carry on my belt on the outside at the 3 o-clock position so I guess I am worried that the glock is too big and people will notice. I am also not against other suggestions of pistols if you have had good experiences.

I went with the Glock 26. I like the fact I can carry a full sized spare (like the VW commercial) Also have the option of the +2 baseplate, which I had converted one of the magazines too. Now I have choices.

To be honest though I haven't carried in hotter weather. Will have to come back to this after the summer.

Backup Mag?

Why does everyone seem to carry a backup Mag In carry pistols? I know the answer is just in case but isn't 10-12 rounds sufficient in most conflicts that involve a shoot out? I just cant see the need for both. Even the smaller carry pistols w/ only 7rounds is enough for me.

I'm not sure what an 'average gunfight' is, but there are other reasons for a spare mag. Since it's the heart of a semi auto, any kind of damage can render you with a single shot gun. A spare can get you back in the fight.

I don't know what kind of fight I might encounter (and you don't either). So I carry a Glock 19 and a spare G17 magazine 95%. The G26 gets the call if I need more covert carry options (2-3 times a week), but I still carry at least one spare (17 or 19) magazine.

On the thread subject:
I had the PM9 and a G26 at the same time. I found there to be little difference in concealing either. The reason I went for the G26 is that it is capable of shooting accurately at the same ranges as it's service-sized brothers, something I could never get the PM9 to do. Good hits with the PM started to fade after about 15 yds, whereas I can hit a lot farther with the G26.

The PM9 I had was a great and very reliable gun, but I can't guarantee I'll only have to shoot at bad breath distance.

If you have an LCP and are looking for a winter carry, I'd go with the 26... or even a 19. I have all three and the Glocks are dead reliable and a joy to shoot, while the LCP sucks in comparison.

I can shoot the 26 way better at 25 yards than I can the LCP at 25 feet, and I think I'm slightly more accurate with the 26 than the 19. I have a Galco OWB pancake "Mini Slide" which is very comfortable and conceals the 26 just fine under any layer, and I'm a thin 5'8"/155 lbs.

If I had to pick one out of these three guns, it would be the 26.

Personally, the 26. I think it's the best carry gun available, don't screw it up with grip extensions, just the GAP extended floorplates (they've got a little lip that protrudes and helps with shots after the first, without negatively affecting concealability, or pinching you, or trying to make the gun handle like it was designed to), plus you've already got a 17, so you've got parts commonality and spare bigger magazines handy already, and you're familiar with the trigger and setup of the gun.

Nothing to be gained from the Kahr I think, except smaller size. Higher recoil, it's not THAT much smaller if you're using a good holster like the FIST #1AK, and the 26 is a champion shooter.

I own a G26 and PM9

I rarely carry the G26 as it is larger, heavier, and harder to conceal since I usually carry in my pants pocket and opt for the lightest weight and easiest to conceal pistol the PM9 wins 99% of the time. That said, the G26 is a fine pistol and has almost 2x the capacity of the PM9. If you carry IWB or in a belt holster the G26 is fine.

To me a Kahr is what you carry if you can't carry a G26 for some reason or a BUG. Its not what I'd carry full time. I want something with more rounds and easier to handle. Your opinion may be different but that is mine.

I owned a 26 and it was a great pistol,I own a kahr PM9 and a 27.
The pm 9 is a great little pistol small, accurate and dependable I bough it for pocket carry and found it was to big for me as Im a jeans only guy.
I carry a 27 daily and to me its no harder to conceal than the pm9.
My 27 is also a compromise as my primary used to be a 1911 I moved to the 27 due to my work situation ,it is easy to conceal with the short grip, good capacity, and a reasonable cal.and accurate. That said Its rare that I pocket carry and if on occation I do it's a Jframe or P3AT.
Bob.

I carried a Gock-36 the single stack 45ACP for several yeras but could not conceal relaibly at all times. I finally opted for the Kahr PM-9 in a pocket holster which is my constant companion. My Kahr has been totally reliable and surprisingly accurate for such a small pistol - I can easilly place all 7 rounds within a 3 inch group at 7 to 10 yards.

Why does everyone seem to carry a backup Mag In carry pistols? I know the answer is just in case but isn't 10-12 rounds sufficient in most conflicts that involve a shoot out?

Actually I'm not sure that is the answer. It is one answer, or part of the answer at least. Carrying an extra mag also has a lot to do with dealing with stoppages.

For a primary carry gun the 26 hands down. The PM9 is lighter and smaller but the 26 is a notably better fighting gun. I recently had the chance to run some drills and courses of fire with each on the clock. I consistently preformed better with the 26. To be fair, I have a lot more rounds through the G26 but I have also shot larger kahrs a fair amount. The real difference came from the fact the PM9 is small enough it is simply harder to shoot and run it well.

If you are someone that just wants a gun to stick in his pocket and feel better because he has it then a PM9 will probably be good for that. If you are going to invest the time to really learn to not only shoot your gun well but to run it well the 26 is a better choice. The PM9 is a great BUG or deep concealment gun but is not really a gun I would consider as a primary.

I know some will say that a PM9 is better than a larger gun you can't carry. That is true. However, there is a world of difference between can't carry and simply, a bit easier to carry and conceal.

If I were going for belt carry anyways I think I'd get a P9 over a PM9. The P9 is easier to conceal than the 26 and still large enough to be able to shoot it and manipulate it fairly well.

If you can find someone that has one or both go out and shoot them. However, don't simply shoot calmly standing in a shooting range. Draw from concealment, run a few drills, set up some stoppages and preform clearance drills. Do the same one handed (both strong and support hand). I think you will see what I mean about one being better suited as a primary carry gun.

If I already had an LCP to serve as a BUG/deep concealment gun I'd get the G26.

I carry my 26 or 19 daily OWB or IWB. I'm not a fan of pocket carry. Try as I may, I can't smoothly and quickly draw and fire from the pocket. I'd rather carry the 26 or 19 and risk maybe an ever so slight print if I bend over to pick something up. That could also be solved with a shirt that is a little longer or slightly baggier pants...but I'm not willing to do either. I'd rather risk slightly printing than carry a gun in my pocket that I can't draw and fire quickly. If others can repeatedly draw a small weapon from their pocket and put two rounds center of mass in under 2 seconds, that's great. But I can't so I'll stick to what I can do.

But I don't feel that I'm printing unless I'm at it an extremely odd angle such that anything on your hip (bone included) would print. The only way to stop that is to not move that way or put a smaller weapon in my pocket. That would necessitate a big change for me. I'd need to become proficient in firearms that I don't enjoy shooting (I just don't enjoy shooting those pocket guns for some reason) and my pants would need to be a little looser so I could reach into my pocket faster and more easily. Until my current method of carry is proven to me to be unacceptable or that 26/19 becomes to heavy for me because of a back problem...I'll stick with carrying something larger that I can run faster or more accurately.
