Glock 29

Pros: It's in 1 of the 2 "perfect" pistol calibers, in my opinion (the other the .45). It's also a Glock.

Cons: The recoil is fairly stiff if you aren't used to it, and without a full grip it can be difficult to get a good solid grip.

It is my number one choice. If I had to fight, it would be my fighting tool of choice. I have many guns to enjoy for their looks, heritage, fun at the range etc, but for business, either the Glock 29 or Glock 20 if you need a bigger gun.

Sold the 29, kept the 20. Use it for full power loads with a KKM barrel...

Good luck with either.

I have a G29 with lone wolf 9x25 Dillon barrel for carry. Pushing 9mm and .380 bullets 2000fps and above. (Use only solid copper and bonded)

If you have a G20, you can get a 9" target barrel from Lonewolf for 10mm, that should push the velocities of the full house 10mm loads right up to nice velocities.

I love my 29sf and find with the pearce base plate recoil to be similar to a .40 S&W. Pro's: it's at least as capable a round as 357 mag with the easier shooting characteristics of a semi, plus more rounds (up to 15+1 with G20 mags). The only Con: it's thick and blocky. I thought I could get used to carrying it IWB with a good holster, but I just haven't been able to yet.

@allaroundhunter I have been shooting 3 to 400 rounds a week out of my glock 26 and my 21. Im very comfortable shooting them.
Having been a 10mm shooter and hand loader since 1991, I can assure you shooting the Glock 26 and the Glock 29 will be two entirely different experiences. I'll go so far as to say the same for the G21 albeit to a somewhat lesser degree. I have a Glock 20 and a Smith 1006.

Most of the 10mm stuff out there is little more than a longer case 40S&W. There are exceptions but the 29 with full power loads, and I don't mean what the factories call "full power", will be different and extensive use of a Glock 26 may not prepare you for that.

I am considering a 29 as well. My local gun/pawn establishment has a used 29, looks to be 3rd gen. one mag, some wear but not at all bad. Price tag says $499, think I can get it for $475 OTD.

Next to it is a gen 4 Glock model 19, used, pristine condition, 3 mags, case and holster for $479 on the tag. Decisions-decisions...

I installed Meprolight night sights, a sandpaper Talon Grip, and it slides in my Crosbreed holster...as I expect it to for many, many years. You'll love it.

Proceed.

I love the G20 but wonder how much more velocity you actually get from the short barreled 29.
Anybody have any actual chrony comparisons between the two?
I've read 15-20% gain in velocity but with no real data to back it up.
Does the 10mm have time to develop "that" much more speed during it's short hop down the bbl?

A bit of data here: http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/topic/41467-velocity-loss-between/

I didn't check the other sites I know of but these are representative MVs.

I'd say keep things simple. You said you have a 21 and a 26, why not pick up a 30? Same size as G29 but shoots the bigger .45. If you want more power, shoot some .45 Super out of it, and your 21. Simple as that.

The 30 is quite possibly the best shooting Glock I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch. I don't shoot .45 Super out of my 30, but I use a KKM barrel and shoot it from my 21 and with my handloads I can load up 250-300gr bullets with 850-900+ ft-lbs of energy. The 10mm G20 I have is fun to shoot, but I think the 21 with the above loads is in a different class.

I have a 29sf and absolutely love it, it's very similar in size to a 19 and the 10mm is really one hell of a cartridge.

I've owned a G29, and I liked the flexibility of choosing between 900fps and 1200fps (actual chrony data notwithstanding). However, and this was my experience with the G30 as well, two or three magazines of full-power ammo is about the most my palms can take. For self-defense against two-legged critters, the milder loads would be preferred.

Have had a 30 since they came out, great gun, same with the 26. I never found a use for a 10mm. Good Ammo is hard to find and I don't hunt with a pistol or reload.

If you do not handload, then the .45 might easily be justified over the 10mm. I say that as a hardcore 10mm fan........and handloader.:)

Why the 29 and not the 30?
10mm for CCW?
Don't get me wrong, I love the caliber and the gun, just don't see it as a serious CCW caliber.
How much experience do you have?

Just buy the 29, then you won't need any more excuses "not" to handload.:neener:
(unless you already do, then disregard this post):scrutiny:

I've carried a G29 for 3 years only use underwood ammo (which is tough to find right now, but it will return) plus with the 29 you can have 40s&w 9x25dillon and 357sig with nothing but the drop in barrels.
Go for it you won't regret it.

Well, yeah, it does kick butt. I owned one for a couple years. great gun, had a .40 conversion that was sweet.
I just ask why choose 10mm over 45 acp?
10 rounds of 45 would be my choice. Plus a much better chance of finding ammo that you like.
