Howdy Stevek, and et al.,
Just burning some bandwidth on a Friday night. Saw this thread and just had to chime in. I like all my extreme plastic launchers. My G30 is the oldest of my bunch of glocks. It is also one of my favorite pistols to have when out in the SE AZ deserts.
Over the years it has way over 10k ++ rounds through it. Pretty much stopped counting rounds years ago, since it was a moot point after 10k. It is the most comfortable pistol I own to carry and shoot. I shoot every pattern I own in competition to assure myself that I am able to perform competently with each of them. I found that under the limited stress of USPSA type shooting my scores with the G30 were much higher than other patterns of the same caliber, including the 21. In analysis, I found that I'm not struggling to get it gripped properly. My hand just seems to settle on it and we both go to work. On the other pistols after a couple of shots I'm always trying to get the pistol back in alignment, otherwise I'm really chasing the sights.
The 30 has worked well with a very wide range of factory and reload configurations. Over the years it is my benchmarking gun. When working out new loads, I use the 30 to assess the effectiveness and accuracy potential. I have a bowling pin in my office with a single 45 acp bullet in it. This pin was struck down during one of the holiday match fund raiser for food baskets. The pin was out at 100 yrds and nobody was allowed sequential shots. Each shot cost money. Well, I just finished the regular match so I put my money down, stepped up to the line, chambered the round, held on, pulled through the trigger, and was getting ready to clear the chamber when the crowd erupted. I just paid for a bowling pin and a 200 yrd jog. I like how accurate my 30 is!
My suggestion is to head out to a range and try one out. Either borrow one or rent one. If you make it out to any of the IDPA or USPSA matches you might find someone with one to try. If the pistol fits, you are probably going to really enjoy it. I know I have enjoyed mine a great deal. My 30 travels with us quite a bit. I must admit that rising cost of ammo has shifted more of my shooting to my 26 in 9x19 but that is another story. Best of luck to you!
Cheers!
