I'm seriously considering picking up a G30. Could some owners chime in on it's shootability and accuracy? I'm planning on using it as a CCW, and I don't have any way to try it before I buy it. How is the recoil? I have been carrying a Kimber Ultra Raptor, but I would hate to have it taken by the police should I ever be forced to use it.

Please...no suggestions about other pistols, I have numerous other makes and models, but the G30 is the topic for this thread. Not that I've ever seen this happen on other threads ;)

I'm hoping to get to handle on of these this weekend and mmay end up getting one.

I'm going to sponge off the thread and watch for the responses. :D

Stevek, you will love the G30 it's one of the most accurate .45's out,i'am willing to bet you, you'll put your Kimber in the safe for a very long time.G30 is a fantastic weapon, best choice over any XD,M&P,USP,KPD,KHAR etc.

The Glock is a sweat shooting pistol its accuracy will surprise you and so will its recoil its less than you may expect.;)

Put a good set of sights on it lose the stock ones and take it out and practice at different ranges it will also surprise allot of others who think a small short barrel pistol is no good beyond 25 yards.

Soda cans at 50 yards can be hit with the right sights and practice.

If you have big paws a grip spacer at the bottom adds a little more space to grab also you can use a 13 round G 21 magazine with a bolt on spacer that clamps around the magazine body and locks down with an allen screw.

For sights the two best I have found are either the Heinine tritiums or the AO/XS small dot express sights the Ashley Express sight is good for fast sight indexing and does fairly well to 50 yards being lightning fast out to 25 yards or so
The Heinie 8s do better at longer ranges and require a split second longer to line up.

Hope this helps best of luck.

I picked one up, put some night sights on it and ended up carrying it a lot. It shoots really well at the range and has been completely reliable.

IMO the recoil is mild and I enjoy shooting it just as much as my sig 220.

I would recommend the 30 to anyone.

Out of the box, the G30 is ready for self defense/home defense/conceal carry. Reliable and accurate; recoil not an issue.. With nine round magazines, it is a breeze to conceal carry.. Simple, point and shoot, no safety to fidgit with.. Resembles a G26 on steroids...

i rented one quite a while ago and ran 100 rounds through it. i'm not a .45 guy but if i were to buy any .45, it would be the G30. its just so comfortable to shoot and more accurate than most shooters are, myself included. i don't think you can go wrong with it. great firepower in a very size efficient package and Glock reliability. its a winner.

The G30 is fantastic. I'm not much of a Glock guy, but the 30 shoots really well for me, and the recoil isn't bad at all. Much more pleasant than the .40 Glocks, I think due to the bull barrel.

Dang...looks like I have to pick another gun :D Thanks for all the replies folks!

I've handled one but never shot one. I have enormous hands ring size 14.5 my pinky and part of my ring finger hang below the grip. I would consider grip (or +2 if legal in your state) extensions.

I've been carrying my Glock 30 for 3 years now. For size, power, reliability, and cost, I don't think you can beat it.

I carry mine with both the 10 round mags and the high capacity 13 round with the A&G sleeves. Makes a great CCW and can double as a service size handgun.

Nothing but praise here.

The G30 is chunky, has a feel like a 2x4 block of wood, but it is wickedly accurate and rock solid reliable.

I prefer my XD45 Compact over the G30 because of the G30's thickness, but if the grip width of the G30 doesn't bother you it is an excellent choice in a defensive handgun.

I don't have big hands, but the G30 "fits" me just fine. I guess I got so used to double stack pistols that it grew on me.

Four words: Very reliable, very accurate!

The G30 is a natural fit to my hand. I've been carrying mine for about four years now in a fobus holster with a ten round mag. Gotta love that glock finish also, still looks brand new!

Yeah I bought one 3 months ago. Shot about 300 times so far. Very accurate, NO jams, feels good in hand. Bought it and would do it again.

Howdy Stevek, and et al.,

Just burning some bandwidth on a Friday night. Saw this thread and just had to chime in. I like all my extreme plastic launchers. My G30 is the oldest of my bunch of glocks. It is also one of my favorite pistols to have when out in the SE AZ deserts.

Over the years it has way over 10k ++ rounds through it. Pretty much stopped counting rounds years ago, since it was a moot point after 10k. It is the most comfortable pistol I own to carry and shoot. I shoot every pattern I own in competition to assure myself that I am able to perform competently with each of them. I found that under the limited stress of USPSA type shooting my scores with the G30 were much higher than other patterns of the same caliber, including the 21. In analysis, I found that I'm not struggling to get it gripped properly. My hand just seems to settle on it and we both go to work. On the other pistols after a couple of shots I'm always trying to get the pistol back in alignment, otherwise I'm really chasing the sights.

The 30 has worked well with a very wide range of factory and reload configurations. Over the years it is my benchmarking gun. When working out new loads, I use the 30 to assess the effectiveness and accuracy potential. I have a bowling pin in my office with a single 45 acp bullet in it. This pin was struck down during one of the holiday match fund raiser for food baskets. The pin was out at 100 yrds and nobody was allowed sequential shots. Each shot cost money. Well, I just finished the regular match so I put my money down, stepped up to the line, chambered the round, held on, pulled through the trigger, and was getting ready to clear the chamber when the crowd erupted. I just paid for a bowling pin and a 200 yrd jog. I like how accurate my 30 is!

My suggestion is to head out to a range and try one out. Either borrow one or rent one. If you make it out to any of the IDPA or USPSA matches you might find someone with one to try. If the pistol fits, you are probably going to really enjoy it. I know I have enjoyed mine a great deal. My 30 travels with us quite a bit. I must admit that rising cost of ammo has shifted more of my shooting to my 26 in 9x19 but that is another story. Best of luck to you!

Cheers!
