:) I've been toying with the idea of shortening one of my G36 magazines to 5 rounds, and I've finally figured out how to do it! I haven't had a chance to functional test it, but hopefully will do that this weekend.

Here are some pics:

Looks neat, I can't see why it wouldn't work well, maybe the spring will have a little more zest than with the six round base, pretty cool.

I used the regular G36 base pad and cut/filed it down, along with cutting the magazine tube down. Then I drilled some .030" holes spaced about .3125" along the bottom of the mag tube. The holes were also about .031" from the edge of the mag tube. Then I used .020" stainless safety wire and threaded it through the holes, kind of like sewing, and looped it back, creating a new lip for the modified base pad to slide onto. Lastly, I used Fastweld 10 adhesive along the safety wired edge to permanently hold it in place. The follower and spring can be removed from the top of the magazine for cleaning.

I shortened the magazine to make it a bit more concealable, and it sort of feels like my G27, except thinner, of course. It still gives me a total of 6 rounds. ;)

Ok...I'll bite...

Why would you want less rounds in a defensive handgun?

Perhaps while even though I have a number of more capable handguns, I tend to carry a .38+p J frame snubbie (442). We want it to be concealed!

I'd love to try out the OP's 5 shot G36 and compare and contrast.

Looks great like that, now that I can see the whole gun at once!

Looks like a slightly larger 26/27, or a slimmer 29/30. A good bracket.

I would not personally do this, but it clearly does shorten the butt, and I wonder why Glock never did it. You can get a flush 9-round mag for the G30 as an option, but not a 5-round for the 36.

I carry a 36...and the part that is hardest to conceal is the slide overhang (above the "beavertail")

The mag doesn't stick out at all...but in a canted holster that dang slide is hard for me to hide (lean and mean...6 feet tall and 175 lbs)

Good job on the mags...not something I'd want to do to mine though.

Test fired it today with 50 rounds of FMJ and 6 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense and had absolutely no problems! Success!!

Nice work, MB. To each his own, right? I can definitely see that making a 'light shorts and tee shirt day' just a little bit nicer.

Not sure I'd do it to one of my mags, but I'd probably try one if Glock sold em.

Think I'm only capable of decent gun control 'with' a place for my pinky, but there are lots of people out there who shoot 26's and 27's with pinky tucked under or what have you, and they seem perfectly content without it.

Tell me about that holster. I'm curiously interested. So it's basically 'Mexican Carry' with that lanyard tied to your belt? or your leg? or.....

What's up with that?

If that's the case and you just keep the lanyard short enough like 3 or 4", I can't really see much of a 'Problem' with it working I suppose.

Just wouldn't be 'as' secure at your position of choice I guess.

Let us know what you think of it.

I actually have the cord shortened so that it will go around my belt and be carried between the 3 and 6 o'clock positions. I tied another knot about 1.5" from the end knot, so that it creates a "slot" for the belt to go through. It works pretty good, but in the 3 o'clock position, the gun can sometimes cant forward a good bit because there is really nothing to keep it in place. The 5 o'clock position really works the best and the gun stays in place really good.

Hmm.... I need a way to cut down a Glock 22rd .40 mag to 140mm for shooting USPSA Limited.... hmmmmm. OP, did you take any pictures of this process?

No unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the process. I will probably make another mag, and then I'll take pictures of that one along the way.

How much shorter is the magazine now 1/4" or so?

I think its a good technical exercise but I don't think it makes the gun that much more concealable.

I agree. I'm really impressed with MB's vision & great workmanship, but I'm not sure the size difference makes up for the loss of 1 round in a magazine that is already on the low side of round capacity.

Still... nice looking pistol with the smaller mag.

I too would love to see some pictures of the process and exactly how much was cut off.
