Glock 40 S&W load

I like the 155 XTP with Longshot behind it. 7.5 grains to 9.3 grains will get you from the 1100s to nearly 1300 fps. with that data. It's a really nice slow buring powder and keeps pressures consistent, pressures won't suddenly jump when working to the upper end. Try it if you are interested in a safe full house load. It also works well with other bullet weights. Go to Hogdon's site and they have all the data for it and other powders too, not just Hogdon.

For "full power" practice loads simulating SD ammo I use Longshot with 180gr RS Berry's plated. My XDm eats 'em up, can't see why a Glock wouldn't. For plinking rounds I found a light charge of HP-38 behind the same Berry's bullets works pretty good.

alcole, welcome to THR.

Are you loading for plinking, practice, economy, duplicate factory practice or JHP for SD/HD?

Also, what bullet type/weight are you looking at? JHP, FMJ, plated or lead in 135/155/165/180 gr?

There are too many variables, but if you specify the combo/purpose we can better help. :D

I am currently shooting 6.3 grains Unique under a Berry's 180 grain plated, as well as 7.5 grains Auto Comp under a 150 grain JHP. The recoil is about the same with both. Fairly stout. I am going to stick with 150-165 grains, in the future, for safety (pressure/setback) reasons.

These loads are within a couple tenths a grain from max, and my brass ejects without any noticeable bulge out of my G27. Ditto, when I shoot factory loads. I find a lot of badly bulged brass in my range pickups, so I have to wonder what the heck they're shooting!?

On my first loading of range pickups, I run the completed rounds through an FCD with a push through adapter. I find it easier/faster to just run all the finished rounds through, rather than chamber check to find the bulged ones. After that first push-through sizing, my brass is good to go for subsequent loadings with a normal sizing die, in both my Glock and my Cougar.

For targets/plinking in the G22 and G23 I'm loading 6gr of Win Super Field pushing a Berry's 155gn bullet. I've found the WSF to meter very consistently.

I cant help you out much with full throttle loads but I can with light to midrange loads.
My first load is the 180gn berry RSDS. It is loaded ontop of 4.5 gn bullseye with a col of 1.130 and win sp primer. my records show an average velocity of 870fps.

load #2 is the above bullet same col and primer ontop of 5.1gn of unique.velocity averaged at 928fps. This is an older load and after checking my notes i did have some issues cycleing the action with it.

load # 3 is my newest. It it the 180gn rainer fp loaded ontop of 6.3gn of acc#5 with col of 1.135 with cci500 primers. this gave an average velocity of 840fps. Also note that this load seen to hit low compaired to point of aim. It also appears that it is low pressure due to the unburnt powder in barrel and lack of pressure signs on case.
All velocities were measured with my glock 22 measures about ten foot from muzzle. Just besure to do your part and dont skip case inspection. Some 40s&w brass needs to go on a diet to loose that beer belly.

Older, meaning with the old Unique?
Alliant's website lists 6.7 grains Unique at 1100 fps, for a 180 gr GDHP. You definitely have room to go higher! My 6.3 grain load feels pretty similar to factory 180 gr WWB.

I'm not shooting these thru a glock but I've been loading Nos HP 135gr over red dot - 6.2 to 6.6 - for a nice light target load - and have been very happy with them -
As the economics are a consideration I've got some Berry 135 RS and want to try AA#5 as I heard it metered well - I called Accurate Powder and spoke with the lab - they gave the data for #5 but also suggested #2 with 6.8 to 7.7 under the Berrys 135gr and also said I can go all the way down to 6.0 -

Gloob
I was using the new version of unique but I had problems metering the powder so I didnt finish load development since I also had some acc5 and bullseye to play with.
Also I failed to note that during that time I recently mounted a light on my glock 22 although I heard rumors of some 22s having cycling problems with lights. This was confirmed with glock customer service. I was unable to make it to the range to try the load after replacing mag springs and follower as per glock and I am burning other powder now and the unique was burned elsewhere.
