Friends, I know that a similar thread was addressed last year, but am looking for more input. I have issues with my pistol's slide locking back prematurely, even with ammo still in the magazine. I have tried different ammo, different holding methods, but still experience the same issue. I suspect that as ammo is pushed up into the chamber, it hits the tab and causes the slide release lever to engage and lock the slide open. I'd like to get an opinion on whether I should send it back to Glock to resolve or try filing down the tab on the slide release lever a little? I bought the pistol about 7 months ago. Does anyone have experience with this issue where Glock was actually able to resolve it?
Thanks in advance!

If you try to DIY it, you run the risk of the slide stop not working at all if you take away too much material. I would say it is best to send it back to Glock. Or perhaps take it to a local gunsmith.

Thanks

Thank you and yes, that is what I'm inclined to do. But I am wondering if anyone has had this fixed by Glock and what did they do to fix it. Or was it just returned with No Problem Found?

Do you have the latest parts ? My G42 has the -2 slide stop and 02 below the 5 digit number on the magazines. You may need to contact Glock .

Call Glock customer service. They will take care of you. I bought a G42 as soon as they were released. The gun simply would not feed or eject properly with many different types of ammo. So, back to Glock she went. Glock replaced almost all of the internal parts, but the gun still would not function properly. So, Glock replaced the pistol. The new G42 functions flawlessly.

Great feedback!

Ok, i'll check my parts as best as I can, then will contact Glock. Hopefully it all be squared away because it really is a fine shooting little pistol and I don't want to give up on it. Thanks for all of your responses!

I purchased my G 42 about 2 wks. ago and had a few failures to eject the first few rds. The failures were apparently was related to some bad ammo. I changed ammo and fired 60 rds. without any further problems. My magazines have 03 below the P/N on the magazine...........Like you said it is a great shooting little pistol. In fact, I shot about as well with it as I do with my G 19 and G 43.

I think you need to alter your firing grip with that particular pistol.

And insure the slide stop spring is trapped under the top locking block pin.

For Post 9, the slide stop spring doesn't get trapped beneath a locking block pin on a Glock 42; there is no locking block pin for the G42.

L-2 Right you are. The trigger spring anchors the locking block like the old two pin Glocks. The slide stop also has a coil spring rather than the spring wire on the larger models. Haven't had my hands on one to disassemble and study. My bad!

Locking open on empty is more a liability than a desirable feature IMO. If it will lock open on empty it can just as easily lock open in the middle of a magazine. I've seen it happen in matches too many times. All of my semi autos have been modified so that they will only lock open manually with my thumb and have a deep detent on the stop to hold it down.

The slide lock levers have been a major problem with the Glock 42s. They have modified the lever multiple times in an attempt to fix the premature slide locking.

Ive had two for a number of years now, and its never been a problem with either. Have you tried shooting it with your left hand and see if the issue is still there?

*Looks Around*
There is a reason I've always preferred .32s to .380s and I initially learned it from my Dad who also liked .32's
Try as they may and try as they might the .380 just cannot be made to 100% reliably run in .32 size pistol parameters.
Been that way since 1908
Even old JMB preferred the .32 to the .380

Glock has had, from what I understand, ZERO reliability issues with the G28 .380 but it is the size of a G26 9mm so...

Ive had no issues with my 42s what so ever. They have been reliable and accurate and shoot just like their bigger siblings.

The only thing I really learned from them was, they really arent all that much smaller than my 26's, and I dont see the point in downsizing slightly, and giving up what the 26's offer.
