Glock 44 ammo question

I've got a G44 on the way and have a question about ammo. Has anyone noticed issues with certain brands of ammo? I realize this isnt a target gun and am interested more in functioning. I would say 90% of my shooting will be Mini Mags. Any issues?

Mine runs fine with the high velocity ammo that I have tried. I shoot Aquila Super Extra 38Gr HP and 40Gr RN, CCI Mini Mags and AR Tactical (both 40Gr RN), Federal Champion HV 36Gr HP and 40Gr RN, and Armscor HV 40Gr RN. I also have shot CCI Standard without issues.

I have not shot Federal Auto Match, any Remington, or any Winchester ammo in any of my rimfire guns in a long time due to all having issues in the past.

The "issue" I've had with this ammo and my G44 is I've looked everywhere around here for it and can't find it anymore.
You're right though - my G44 isn't a "target gun," but as I've posted before on THR, my wife and I exterminated pretty close to 500 ground squirrels on our friend's ranch last spring, and we just used our .22 LR handguns (my wife with her Ruger Bearcat and me with my Glock G44) for shooting the ground squirrels that popped up close to us - less than 15 or 20 yards out.
Because I can't find this Federal "Hunter Match" ammo to feed my little G44 anymore, I figure I'll switch to CCI Mini Mags for shooting ground squirrels this spring. My G44 runs okay with those too, as does my Ruger 10-22 - which as you can see from the picture, my 10-22 doesn't run well with Federal "Hunter Match."
BTW, my wife killed as many ground squirrels as I did last spring, and she was using Remington "Yellow Jacket" ammo in her Ruger "Bearcat" revolver and her Ruger "American Rimfire" rifle. Unfortunately, I've heard that Remington might have discontinued their "Yellow Jacket" ammo. That's usually our kind of luck - about the time one of us decides we really like or want a particular gun or ammo, the company that makes it discontinues it.

I have fired a batch of different .22 LR ammo through my Glock 44. I have a fair selection to choose from on the ammo shelf, and at least a magazine or two of each one (but the Aguila subsonic) has gone down the bore.



The standard velocity or target loads are occasionally less than 100 pct, so I stick with the HV offerings in solid and HP. The only other one I look out for is Norma Tac-22, as recently it has been a bit spotty. I think I got a lot that may be slightly oversized, even my lever guns didn’t want to function smoothly with them.

Stick with the HV stuff and you should be ok.

The only stuff Ive had any troubles with has been an old batch Federal Auto Match I had around. And that stuff never functioned well in any of my other autos either, rifle or handgun, and why I still had it to try.

Most of what Ive shot out of my 44's has been CCI Blazer's. They seem to like that just fine.

I have one of the G44s with, shall we say, refined tastes. It loves CCI Mini Mags, Stingers and Velocitors.
It seems to like Aguila Super Extra until I start getting happy that it does like a little bit cheaper ammo then it starts getting fussy and misfeeding.
It’s spotty with Federal Automatch snd Champion.
Don’t get it near any Winchester ammo. It gets sick and jams a lot.
I just went through my notes and realized I haven’t tried any Remington Thunderbolt or Golden Bullet in it. I will have to try that soon.

I've shot CCI mini mag, CCI std. velocity and Federal Automatch with no issues. Using both factory mags and Promag 18s & 25s.
Mine seems to group std. velocity the best. I always recommend running at least a hundred Mini mags first for break in, then see what it likes. From what I've read this isn't finicky with ammo but be aware there's some real junk rimfire ammo out there as well. Buy good quality ammo for break in.

I've never had luck with Auto Match in any semi auto. They shoot fairly well from my Smith 17s.

The last time I bought any Auto Match was during the great 22lr shortage around 2008. That stuff would not even function in my Marlin Model 60 or in my Ruger 10/22. And those two rifles will function with almost any 22lr ammo.

I bought a G44 as soon as they were available, and mine had some issues with 36 grain ammo for the first couple hundred rounds or so. I found that .40 grain minimags ran fine from the start.

After those first couple hundred rounds and ever since, it runs all .22 LR I feed it, including the federal Automatch.

If you really want to upgrade the gun, put a Timney trigger in it. I won’t carry one, but I love it in the G44 for plinking.

Mine has worked with anything I could get to chamber (so far). Most of my 22lr stash is cheap bulk stuff. Not a lot of rounds through it yet, maybe 2K. I cleaned it up when I got it and have not taken it apart and cleaned it sence.

I tested my G44 with Remington Thunderbolt and Remington Golden Bullet today.

I had 4 stovepipe type jams in 20 rounds of Thunderbolt. Didn’t bother testing any more.

I fired 100 rounds of Golden Bullet.
50 rounds standing and 50 rounds sitting with my elbows resting on the bench. I think I have found a cheaper round that my gun likes. It hits high and a little left but my rear sight is positioned to the right.
When I first got the gun all my rounds hit to the left so I moved the sight and never repositioned it. I left my little screwdriver at home. Next time.

So, Thunderbolt sux, Golden Bullet - OK

I have a stash of Winchester Wildcat, 39 gr, works great. I clean it and lube with 100% silicone spray. If you want to lube more, use a needle oiler, they get gummed up quick.

That’s so funny. My G44 didn’t like the Winchester Wildcats at all. It pretty much doesn’t like Winchester ammo in general.

I've had several and did not notice that either were picky about ammo, then again I don't have fifty different kinds of .22LR to wring them all out. The gun is fun, it's not what I would call inaccurate, but rather it's kind of hard to shoot accurately because the trigger is heavier than centerfire Glocks and combined with the light weight of it (~14oz), just makes it's a bit more challenging to be accurate with.

The G44 is fun to shoot. I did several mag dumps at 10 yards while testing a Lone Wolf Distributing Freedom Wolf frame with a stock G44 slide on it. This was done shooting free hand. The target on the left was with Aquila Super Extra 40Gr RN and the target on the right was with CCI Mini Mag 40Gr RN. I shot four magazines at each target as fast as I could. I was using the ProMag 18 round mags loaded to full capacity and did not have any issues.



And I can hit clay birds out to 75 yards with the G44 pretty easily.
