Thinking of selling my shield for the glock 48. The 48 grip just feels way more comfortable in my hand.

For those of you who weren’t glock people before getting the 48, what do you think about it?

I carried a Glock as my issued duty weapon for over two decades. Respected their function and durability but they didn't fit my hand well. The Glock 48 changed that, an ideal fit for me. Now retired I use my Shield as my EDC but my G48 stays and is my bedside gun/occasional carry.

I'm kind of the opposite. I thought I would love the 48. The 19 was just a smidge too thick for me, but I liked all of the other dimensions. Then I shot one. Didn't like it a bit. A buddy of mine had one that he loved until he got a P365. As for me, Shields fit my hand much better. But if the 48 fits your hand, go for it. All of the reports I've read on it seem to indicate that it's a fine pistol.

Was a Glock guy before, so take my comments with that in mind.

But it’s the Glock I’ve been waiting for, essentially a slim G19 that’s been the measuring stick for a long time for carry. With the Shield Arms magazines the capacity is the same as the G19 at 15+1.

Damn good pistol. One of my favorites. But it won't give you much of an idea of why Glocks are so good at being Glocks. Being that nearly all CCW's are quirky and compromised pistols, I doubt it'll do you wrong.

The G35.4 drives home why Glocks are great better than any other model. I'd have every new Glock guy start there if I could. 34.4 for women.

The 43x is what brought me to Glock. Now I have a few.:)

I did not like Glocks and never planned on owning one but the 43x fit me better than any other "little" gun and was so much reliable than anything else I owned at the time, I fell in love with it. 1200+ rounds of various ammo, including lots of +p and not one failure.

I’ll chime in and echo some of the statements above....

Have had not one but a glock 19 on 3 different occasions. Knew and respected the platform but didn’t like the way it fit my hand. When the 43 came out I went to it and sold it because of the lack of rounds that smaller guns had. Along came the 43x and I wasn’t on board. I have quite a few cz’s and S&W pistols but when the shield arms came out with the 15 round mags and they were reviewed so favorably, I tried the 43x and absolutely love it. I’m one of the people that love a 26 over a 19 Glock and this 43x with the shield mags has caused the 26 to take up residence in the safe.

My daughters fiance had a G48 and didn't liked the way it felt when he carried and he traded for a G43X and a G26. Right now he is hooked on the 26, loves it. He said the 48 just never felt right. To each his own...

Glock guy, will always be. I think the Shield is better than the G48, but I can’t shoot the Shield worth a hoot. I can shoot the G48 and the 43X. But I find the Magguts plus 2 on a regular 43 about the perfect balance of size for me, in a single stack configuration. Guess that is why I like the feel of the Shield so much.

I like the G48 over the 43X. I like the 43 with +2 over the 48. I like the G26 over all of them, and I don’t see anything changing that in a subcompact 9mm. If forced to go to two semis, it would be the G42 and G26. I shoot both outstanding in matches and classes. In fact, hard to justify having a 19 or 17 around for me.

I do make a 26X of sorts, add a grip sleeve to a G19 mag and use it in the G26. Favorite combo.

I went from a Glock 19 to a Glock 34 for duty use and carried it daily for over a decade.

Now that I’m chained to an administrators desk I sit a lot more. I quickly found out the 34 slide is a bit too long and it digs into my side. I looked at a few other guns, but went to the Glock 43X MOS and I won’t look back. It feels good, shoots good and carries perfectly for my needs. :)

If I can find a Safariland paddle holster with the same thumb operation as my current one I’ll put a Micro red dot on it. The holster I have won’t work with the red dot :(.

The 48 and 43 are both great guns, the 43X is a pretty darn good mash-up combining the best of both...IMHO. :)

Stay safe.

I'm totally a SIG guy, but I love the 43X pistols I've picked up, therefore, pretty sure I approve of the 48 as well. Not to mention, my 19X is a neat little pistol in its own right...

I have a 48, and when I bought it the gun shop did not have a 43x. I really like the 48, but keep wondering how the 43x would feel. Probably have to pick one up sooner or later.

Same grip feel, slightly shorter slide/sight radius. The 43X does seem to sit back a little bit more in the hand, maybe because there is less weight out front. I think this does make the 43X feel a teeny bit “snappier” in recoil...especially with +p ammo. Maaaaybe the 43X is a tad quicker clearing a holster on the draw, but probably not enough to matter.

In all honesty, unless you’re like me and needed a shorter slide to keep the holster from pressing into an office chair all day, or your 48 muzzle peeks out an inch from under cover garments while on your belt, you probably won’t see enough of a difference between your current 48 and a 43X to justify the cost of a near duplicate sidearm.

Now a 43 has a very stubby grip and shorter slide, that’s a completely different feel. That may be one to look at for more compact carry than the 48 if the 6+1 option is ok with you.

Stay safe.

The 48 is probably the only Glock I like. It feels good in my hand and i shoot it well. Much better than the 17/34 or 19. Trigger is what it is for a Glock. Night sights installed and I can ring steel all day long.

I am very very tempted to get one of my own (i shoot my dads) one day. But I have a P-01 I can’t seem to part ways with..

I carried a Glock 22/23 platform for my 20 year career too before my agency switched to the P320 during my last year. Never warmed up to that gun so I sold it and bought a two-tone G48.

I love the concept and carry S-15 mags. The gun's grip is too thin though, or maybe it's too slick? I put a Hogue grip on it which feels better but I don't know if it would be better with Talons.

I tried to like it with and without Shield Arms magazines.

The “anorexic 19” does have a cost: The narrow frame requires diligent attention to grip.

Buy the 43 for a more compact carry and if you want to try the 43x just put the 43 slide on the 48 frame.

I had three Shield 9’s and sold all for G43X’s and am glad I did. But since there is now a Shield Plus, I think you owe it to yourself to at least check it out.

But I really like my 43X.

Years ago, I had a Gen 4 Glock 26. I never "bonded" with that gun and ended up selling it. I tried the 43X a few months ago, but did not care for it either. I tried the 48 in November, and loved it so much that I bought myself a 48MOS for Christmas. I still do not have a red dot for it. Any suggestions from the group?

I recently got a new Glock 19 MOS Gen 5 in FDE at a good price . I changed the sights to Trijicon Brite and Tough contrasting green front and Orange rear white outlined nite sights and put a Faxon threaded barrel on it . I also mounted an Olight Baldor laser/light and got a kydex concealment OWB holster to fit the combo from Holster co. . I started with a Clock 17 30 years ago and shot it ALOT early on and was issued one ten years later when I reserved for a local PD (they went to .40) and legally carried "off duty" a Glock 26 for about 5+ years in a non CCW friendly Ca. county. I never modified one and never really warmed up to a Glock finding them "combat " accurate and allways being leery of the trigger when reholstering. I have tried about every platform available and really only comfortable with DA/SA crunchen tickers :)
So when my son and his inlaws in Oregon went to Glock I reconsidered as we stick together in "interesting" situations the past year - fires , plagues and riots and bad people in Oregon, with very little police. Having common magazines to share seemed prudent, in long term and the inlaws in 2019 invested in huge stashes of 9mm and went to local training seminars and carry 19s and 17s and 26s (with 19 mags and spacers) . So I got me a 19 which I never had before and always considered perfect , as that is what the Hispeed low drag agents I knew had. Personally I like Glock 21s the best and have a real nice one for a decade ready to go in a chest holster that IS super accurate.
The new Glock Gen 5 does have a nicer trigger feel than the previous ones and the frame , with the short duckbill , fits me perfectly , Better than the Shields I have had , which I considered "throw away" pistols if I got caught carrying extra legal in Ca. , which never happened . I have not yet decided on the optic to put on the new Glock MOS , but am leaning towards the J point 8 MOA except for the battery location . I ran 200 rounds of PMC ball thru my New Glock 19 with the factory barrel and sights the first week I had it, I really liked it and it was a 4" at 25 yard gun factory. I have run another 200 rounds of same PMC Bronze ammo thru it with the Faxon barrel and Trijicon sights , which I centered and it is now a 3" 25 yard gun from the same braced position , zero malfunctions of course !
I put on the small paddle holstered combo whenever I leave the house as the default rig. I solved the fear of the Glock trigger by leaving the gun in the holster at all times unless I am servicing it, carefully.. A proper fitting trigger shielding Kydex holster of the Glock to me is my answer to the trepidation I have for carrying one . I like the Gen 5 Glock 19 with the short Duckbill grip better than any other small frame Glock yet and have tried the 43x and 48 and they were too much like a Shield for my taste. :)

I have a Swampfox Sentinel on mine and love it. I have a non-MOS 43X and had the slide cut and rear sight moved forward. I am on the waiting list for a G48 MOS and it will also get a Sentinel
