G19 vs. G17 or any other compact vs. full size counterpart. Would you say the added length gives you an accuracy advantage? I'm not talking theory just your own experiences.

Glock 17 can certainly be a very accurate pistol. That said, I am not a big fan of Glock accuracy. I used to have 8 Glock and now only 19 and one very special one.

If you want to achieve accuracy with glock in some sort of sports then here is my experience. I found Glock 17 with little work accurate pistol, but 17C with work even better, and Glock 34 yet better, whereas Glock 17L best among all Glocks.

Rest is just practice. I have seen a very good shot person with Glock 19 stock beat this guy with Sig X6.

A good gun can only provide you with a competitive platform, but won't shoot bulls eye on its own for you. You have to practice and put in time and money.

4th gen glocks regularly shoot 2" center to center groups at 25 yards, when braced from a bench.

Thats about as good as you are likely to get from the platform.

Me ? Thats good enough. My hand is not a locked vice, and I don't regularly take pistol shots steadied on a bench.

If you can get a glock ( or any pistol, for that matter ) to group 2" center to center at 25 yards regularly in 5 or 10 shot volleys....your budget should reflect a pistol of your pedigree...

If you want bulls stacked on bulls through the same tight hole....other places to look, you should.

What range are you talking about? At 7 yards in a combat situation the slight added length of the 17 over the 19 is going to be insignificant. At much longer ranges, longer barrel may give you a slight advantage but that's going to take more than casual shooting to accurately determine. Ransom rest comes to mind.

If you want to see the accuracy potential of some short barreled guns watch a few Hickock45 videos on YouTube. Not scientific but any means, but the short barrel guns do quite well. Better than I can do and probably better than 99% of the handgunning population can do.

Individual guns will vary more in accuracy than 1/2"of sight radius will make up for. Everything else being equal the G-17 should be more accurate, but I cannot tell any difference in the guns I've shot. I gave my G-17 to my son when he turned 21 and bought a 2nd G-19 since there was no difference with me pulling the trigger. Never shot a G-34, but it does give about 1.5" more sight radius over the G-19 and about .75 over a G-17.

I would have never thought of a Glock as being accurate until I bought one. I was one of those guys who swore he'd never buy one, but I did, and while I LIKE other guns better, one of the Glocks is what I'd reach for if my life were in danger. I own two G-19's, a G-20, G-21, G-26 as well as the G-17 I gave my son. My 1911's are a tiny bit more accurate, but I can keep all shots within 2" at 50 feet, and within 6" at 50 yards with any of the Glocks. That is all the accuracy I'll ever need.

The question is more of personal experience. How do you compare the two weapons? I just know myself and everybody I know seem to go the way of the compacts and not full size.

I shoot my 17 just as well as my 26.

Either should be more accurate than you are

Guns are likely equal in mechanical accuracy. Ammo will matter more, and the shooter most.

I am happy with my 34. I've also had a G27 that was scary accurate for such a small handgun, however, this was achieved using slow, deliberate shots. The 34 is much more forgiving.

The best thing longer barrels do is give you more confidence with longer shots. The increased velocity is also a bonus. My 34 with CorBons can be a deadly combination.

Any extra length usually helps me, all else equal. I can get on a hot streak with the compact or even the subcmpact, when i get it dialed in.
particularly in rapidfire type shooting. But if i have to make one shot count id take the 17.

Extra sight radius and barrel length are marginally better to have. If you can tell a difference in accuracy, you should be using something with even more capabilities.

What fits you best all things considered. Lots of folks shoot better with their G19s and G23s than with their 17s and 22s. True story.

Just my experience, YMMV.

After a month of heavy load development, I came up with a good load for my Glock 17. From the bench at 25 yards I was getting a consistent 2.5" groups. The majority of the groups placed four rounds at 2", with my normal flier stretching them out to 2.5". I feel that the Glock is accurate enough for its intended purpose.

I haven't really worked much with my G19 much. Most claim that the G19 is just as accurate as the G17.

Doors is absolutely correct. The better fit in your hand will be the most accurate. A friend owned a gun store and indoor range that rented guns. I tried tha G21, because I like 45ACP, and I owned, and reloaded for a pistol in that caliber. It didn't feel good in my hand, and consequently, I did not shoot well with it. I had the same results with the HK USP full size and compact. Then one day I strolled in and saw the G30 in the case with the rentals. He had ordered one when they were first offered. I bought a box of WWB 185gr. and went to the range. It felt good in my hand , and was very accurate. Enough to place in the top 5 in several Glock matches he held occasionaly. It had, he guessed, about 500 rounds through it, before it came home with me.

I had a G26 for almost a year before getting rid of it, wasn't accurate for me at all. I bought a G17 and the difference is like day and night. My most accurate 9MM is my CZ PO1 with the G17 and SR9 running fairly close but the PO1 is a shade better. I have also shot the G19 and it is not any better for me than the G26.

Just this afternoon; shot an xdsc better than the xd service or g19.
Shot the HK usp better than any of them today.
Go figure?

The 17 and 19 are equal in overall mechanical accuracy.

However, once you push the distance out to >15 yards, the longer sight radius of the 17 starts to make a difference.

If you push the speed to splits in the .16 - .17 range at 7 yards, or in the .25 or so range at 15 yards on steel plates, the 17 will be easier to shoot accurately fast.

Given a choice, take the 17 every time. The Rodger's school states that thier students shoot and average of 11% better with a 17 vs. a 19.

If your primarily concerned with CC however, the 19 is the perfect size.

Same here.

I've found that I don't shoot the compacts very well (G19, G23), but that has more to do with the way they fit my hand (they don't) than their sight radius.
