Glock alternatives

Don't forget the FN 5.7 Fun to shoot and the price of the ammo forces you to become a better shot :D

The S&W M&P. I've often called it a "better-feeling Glock." :) The full-size is about the same size and capacity as the G17 or 22, the compact very close in size to the G26/27.

Glock

H.K. (U.S.P./P2000/P2000sk/P30)
Sig (P2022/P250)
Walther

Steyr
S&W (M&P)
SA (X.D.)

Ruger (P95, P345, SR9, L.C.P.)
Kahr (P, TP)
Taurus (24/7 Pro, M.P.)

S&W (Sigma)
Kel-Tec
Skyy

and many more!

Wilson KZ45. The Walther P99 and S&W M/P look pretty strong as well.

There have got to be 25 polymer guns better than a Block, even if there are only 26 total.

"MrAnteater

The only poly gun I would avoid is Kahr. Tons of problems."

Kahr firmly states in their manual that due to their tight machining tolerances that each pistol requires a minimum of 200 rounds fired before it can be considered broken in and fit for self-defense carry. I won't argue that they are not as reliable as a Glock, my MK9 has had a few stove pipes from reloads where my Glock would eat anything under the sun, but they are very nicely made pistols with quite a few happy owners that report minimal problems. Their warranty is hard to beat and the P series pistols are highly regarded and easy to conceal.

Check out the S&W M&P line. I was so impressed with the 40c that I replaced my long-time G23.
I've generally heard good things about these. I hated the feel of the one our club auctioned off a few years ago, but I picked one up at a gunshow Saturday and it felt MUCH better. Probably had a different backstrap installed.

Seems like a decent gun, although with my two Glocks, I'm in no hurry to get one.

How many glocks have you owned? That's what I thought.

Lots of interesting polys out there. I'll add the Steyr M-A1 but I think it only comes in 9mm and .40....no .45. Recently, quite a few companies came out with .45's for a gov't competition....S&W, Taurus to name two.

Italian, anyone?

My primary CHL weapon is a Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm. It's a 17+1 polymer frame pistol. I like it plenty.

It's also available as a 10+1 .45. The pistol is ever-so-slightly larger than the 9/40 version.

I think my Glock and XD are the only two guns I have not had problems with. I have an M&P 9c and love shooting it. I carry it with high confidence but don't try to put S&B ammo through it. I had to shoot it all through my Glock. With all that said. I really do not think there is a replacement for Glock. Try getting parts for an M&P, XD, Walther and HK. Try to find high end sights or night sights for them. I am not saying they are not out there but they surely are not out there like they are for Glocks. Maybe one day Glock will step down as the King, but not yet. Glock is after all over 20 years proven.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Both my DH and one of my Basic Pistol instructors are crazy about their S&W M&Ps. DH is thinking of getting a compact too because the butt of the full size one prints a bit with certain shirts and because its a big lump in his kidney when driving.

I did a lot of preliminary research for him, scanning many forums, and I don't believe I ever saw an ill word against that gun.*

*Except for a handful of Glock fanatics complaining that people should have just bought the original. ;) :D

i like Taurus 24/7 in .45 put it side by side with my roomate's G36 when i got it.

The taurus is .3 oz heavier
less than 1/2 in. longer
less than 1/8 in. wider
less than 1 in taller (not counting the magazine for the G36 which has about 3/4 in. of finger rest on it.
and carries 13 rnds of .45 as opposed to 7

all that for $200 less than the Glock...

seems like a good alternative to me

All the others are imitators. Glock took the polymer pistol to another level. Don't be fooled.

Glock 21!!

You have no idea of the power of the dark side. Take my hand, Luke. With the other, I'll let you hold my Glock.:what:

I looked at the three main (IMO) polymer striker fired pistols in the Glock, XD and M&P and shot two of them (glock and XD) before buying.

Ended up getting the XD. Have fired an M&P since then and liked it but not as much as XD.

If you're a 1911 guy then holding an XD will feel natural to you right away
