Glock and 1911-head to head

Glock: Shot very well for me. But, I didn't like the grip angle, trigger, fit and finish, asthetics.

1911: SHoots very well for me also, love the grip angle, fits my hand best. Better fit and finish (Dependant on brand) and nothing is prettier than a nice 1911.

The reason I shoot my Kimber better is this: Better trigger, longer sight radius, and thinner front sight. Maybe I should have said that I am more accurate with my Kimber, Because I can handle my Glocks just fine. I don't even shoot my Kimber that often. Usually it is my Glock 9's that see the most range time.

Wouldn't more time spent with the Glocks make you as profecient or better

david,

After carrying one model or other of 1911 for 20+ years I switched over to the Glock. I carried and practiced with nothing else for almost 4 years. The G21 I have fired over 10,000 rounds. About 5,000 went through the G30. Then there was the G22, G23 and G35.

I got to about where I had been with the 1911 but needed constant practice to maintain that level (a matter of managing the trigger). In November of last year I bought a Wilson KZ-45. The first shooting session (150 rounds) and I was shooting better than I had been with the G21.

A friend of mine expressed it as well as I can. The 1911 rewards excellence, the Glock doesn't.

As always, YMMV!

Had more than a few of both. Love Glock 23's, love 1911's. Have carried both. My daily carry gun is a Series 80 S/S 1911 Commander with a nice Ed Brown Beavertail grip safety I just installed, along with a checkered, arched mainspring housing. The gun just fits and points where I want it so much better than a Glock, (for me). I shoot it better, quicker, more accurately. It conceals easier. It's never jammed. My last G23 choked when I was doing the Texas CCW qual. Three different times, and it wasn't limpwriting that caused it. Bye Bye little Glock. This 1911 has not failed to fire yet in several hundred rounds. Good enough that I quit looking. :)

(edited to add) I have also had more than one 1911 over the years that was not exactly dependable, didn't want to give the impression that I think all 1911's are perfect, but, ya'll knew that...

I think I've finally had it with 1911's.
I've been through the Colts, Kimbers and just sold my Baer TR.
Everything you say is true. They reward excellence and some of them run fine but for utilitarian pull the trigger bang I will suffer the Glock. They're not perfection but I don't worry about them. Its a gun you can take to a real fight and trust better than most.

My first auto was a Glock 21. Later on I bought a S.A. loaded 1911 and could never be as accurate with it as I could the G21. So now I am 1911-less and am again a Glock owner and happy.
The G21 is lighter, better grip angle, larger hand filling grip, more bullets, better sights, better reliability, less buttons, levers, switches, gadgets, distractions. And I don't have to worry about scratching its finish.
These are MY reasons for my opinion. For all you die-hard 1911 lovers more power to you, I still like the 1911 and even like its' popularity. It's a legendary American design and am proud of it.

Apples and oranges and what you grew up with.

I grew up with Glocks and find the system natural, accurate, and easy. I don't care for M1911's, but I understand those who like them - they are just not for me - perhaps I will someday buy a Springfield in 9mm just for fun.

For everyday carry, I feel that Glocks and other DAO autoloaders and revolvers are the best choice for the average citizen. I can't argue that a tuned M1911 in the hands of a pro isn't more accurate, but my opinion is based on what John Q. Citizen requires.

Don't own either but I had the chance to own one or the other it'd be the Glock -- hassle free, lots of holster choices, great prices -- in my area anyway...:D

AAAaaaarrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I just ordered a new 1911.
I had to try a stainless Caspian with a bull barrel...:what:
in 10mm.
Should be ready in 3 months.:p :D
