My friend just got a Glock 22 and while looking at the manual I noticed it said the rear of the grip has a lock, and it supposedly has a loaded chamber indicator. The booklet said something like "in states where required". I glanced but didn't notice either on the pistol. Didn't look that closely though.

So does Glock have a separate pistol for those states or do all of them include this stuff? Also, when did Glock start adding those features?

Oh ya, I enjoyed this thing much more than the G19 I had a few years back. I am thinking of getting one.

Glock usues the extractor for a loaded chamber indicator, so technically, they all have them. Its just a little extra nub of metal added to the extractor that sticks out when there is a loaded chamber. I know nothing of the locks.

If you look at the rear of the grip you'll notice a hollow section. Glock sells a lock that can be inserted (or removed) from this section.

It's similar to the lock Springfield Armory sells on their 1911. Springfield's design is integrated into the mainspring housing. You can use a standard MSH if you would rather not have an internal lock.

Glock and Springfield Armory do this the right way. Optional locks for those that want them or where required.

The only lock my wife's Glock 19 has is a padlock that was in the box when she bought it.

Edited to add:

Oh yea. I do remember seeing that in the manual.

Well inside the booklet was a picture of the rear grip checkering....it was like one little rectangular piece of that checkering that pulled outward.

EDIT:
I see it, its in the linked pic. Thanks. So do all Glocks ship with this like Springfield and you just buy a replacement if you don't want it, or is Glock just selling that in certain states and you can buy the lock if you really want it?

You can order a Glock from a gun store with the internal lock, but it's not common for stores to stock them. It's optional in most states and not surprisingly few people even know that Glock sells an internal lock much less want one in their gun.
