Owned both and man was I glad to get rid of that Beretta. It’s a 96 ( 40S&W) caliber made in Italy, gorgeous gun.
Problem is, it started self destructing as soon as we started firing it!
Glocks are much better guns, no doubt about it.
After only 50 rounds, the finish on the Beretta’s barrel and guide rod started pealing off. I don’t care much for looks but that was simply not acceptable.
After a few more boxes of ammo, through the months the gun started wearing off, the back plate on the chamber showed a lot of wear specially around the hole where the firing pin protrudes.
I bought a Bersa 9mm about the same time, which I was shooting much more than the “safe queen” Beretta 96.
It was a real disappointment to watch how the 200 Dollar Bersa ate box after box of ammo with practically no wear or problems with the parkerized finish, while the 900 dollar Beretta looked as if had been worn out with only a small fraction of the shooting the Bersa had gone through.
I finally traded it in along with a Taurus Tracker and got a S&W 629, a Colt Pocket hammerless 1808 and a cosmetically destroyed Hi Power.
