If I wanted a gun for general purpose defense, carry in the woods, informal shooting, which one would be better, an XD-9, or Glock 19?

Handle them both, and get the one that feels more natural in your hand.

The Glock has peculiar ergonomics and doesn't fit a lot of people well.

Got lead: the fact of the matter is only you can answer that question. One has a grip safety the other blah blah blah it doesn't matter they are both quality firearms. Like kozak6 said handle both or better yet shoot both and see which you like. Some other things to consider when purchasing a gun, that I have overlooked in the past, is the cost of extra magazines and holsters. In the end I can't tell you which one you'll shoot better so with no further information I'd say flip a coin.

I have an xd with over 20,000rds through it. So it isn't like I just tried it one time at the rental range. I love the xd's, but not being able to get reliable factory replacement parts IE (recoil spring assemblies). So I carry a glock 19.

I like the Glock better. Some guys like the XD better. I know that is not helpful, but after a couple dozen threads like this it is my experience that in the end it will be about a 50/50 split among those who respond.

I believe either would be fine. The biggest advantage Glock has is part availability in my opinion. If there is anywhere near you where you could rent both & shoot them that is what I would suggest. Get the one that works best for you. BTW I own an XD & have shot a few Glocks.

I've owned 2 xdm's and several different glocks. My glock 19 and 26 are keepers, the xdm's are long gone.

It is personal preference and nothing more. Both are great guns.

I'll echo what others have said. You can't make a wrong decision here. I would get the glock 19, but I would not feel bad at all with the XD. Remember that if you want to conceal carry, the glock is a TINY bit slimmer. Pick the one that YOU shoot the best.

Those were some of my final choices too but I actually went with the M&P 9mm platform. Plus, I'll be getting a single stack Kahr CW9 soon too.

Bottom line is that XD, Glock, M&P, Kahr, etc... are very good weapons and it really depends on what platform works best for you and which feels best.

Don't rule out the m&p range pack. It comes with some great stuff from bladetech and a uplula loader, really nice! The stuff that comes with XDM's is cheesy at best.

Check out the XDm as well, larger capacity, and

very good ergonomics. Springfield and Gock both make superb firearms. Go with the one that is most comfortable in your hand.

Go with the one that is most comfortable in your hand.

I wouldn't necessarily say that is always the case.

I just flat out shoot better with some guns even though I initially thought they were less ergonomic. The more I shoot, the more I feel that ergonomics are overrated. :)

Just practice, practice, practice with whichever you choose to get and you'll enjoy it.

Depends on what works for you, I have a Glock and its the gun I shoot worst with because it just doesn't fit me well. I loved the XD, until I got the S&W M&P. I'd look at all three. Another plus to the S&W is the changeable backstraps to get the grip feel you prefer.

get whichever one feels better in your hand. or whichever one you can get a better deal on. or whichever one you think looks cooler. or flip a coin. they're both good guns, you can't make a wrong decision here.

i personally like xd's more than glocks due to the ergonomics and trigger, but that's my own opinion, and relatively worthless. both are reliable and durable, and i'd trust my life to either without hesitation.

i guess the one real consideration here is that you can buy any glock part you want over the internet, and you can't with the xd's, you pretty much have to send it back to springfield to have parts replaced if something breaks.

I have both but like the xd better cause of the trigger. Im very accurate with the xd but the glock definitely feels better in my hand. If you can just buy both it will solve your predicament.

Try both. Some people like one, some like the other. I like my XD45 Service compact. I've shot a Glock 21 as well, great pistol.

I do enjoy having a grip safety on the XD, though. It's nice when reholstering.
