Glock prone to accidental firing

Yes, when a moron handles a firearm, negligent discharges may very well occur.

Glock didn't use the word "recall" but called it something like a "refit" or "upgrade" when they replaced the trigger bar mechanism on numerous guns. Methinks that the older model could rust or get stuck rearward, making for a dangerous situation. With the refit, it's suppose to be Glock-Safe now.

ANY gun that you keep your stupid finger on the trigger is dangerous. Glocks are no different. The best safety device is the one between your ears.

In addition, most Glocks have no indicator that shows the guns are loaded and no magazine safety to prevent them from firing when the ammunition clip is removed. And unlike many other guns, the Glock is always semicocked and ready to shoot. This inner tension in its firing mechanism increases the likelihood of discharge if the trigger is accidentally moved, some gun experts say.

Not many guns have loaded chamber indicators. I don't trust the ones that do anyway. The only way to know for sure, in my opinion, is to open the action up and take a look.

And the part about the Glock being "always semicocked" doesn't even make sense. As the trigger travels to the rear, the striker is compressed, and then released at the end of the trigger's travel. That's not semicocked.

You want to know why most negligent discharges happen when a cop is carrying a Glock? Because most cops carry Glocks.

The no-frills, lightweight polymer-frame semiautomatic pistol forces the user to handle the gun with extreme caution. The Glock will fire if the trigger is moved less than half an inch, compared with twice that distance for most other police guns.

And some Glocks will shoot with as little as 3 1/2 pounds of pressure on the trigger -- light enough for a 5-year-old to fire the gun. Glock started offering optional trigger pulls of up to 12 pounds in the mid-1990s after the New York City Police Department -- plagued by a string of police shootings -- demanded a heavier trigger.

The gun has no manual safety to prevent it from firing if the trigger is accidentally pulled. In fact, the gun's safety features -- extremely effective in preventing discharges if the gun is dropped or hit -- automatically are turned off every time the trigger is depressed.

This guy is an anti idiot who's never fired a gun in his life. I especially like the last paragraph where the guns safety features are turned off when the trigger is pulled - uh yeah, like that's what its supposed to do :scrutiny:

When I bought my Glock 21 I added the personal gun safety, my index finger, so far it has worked with all the pistols that I have:D

Glock 21
Beretta 8045
Walther P99
Witness Compact 9mm

Alternate titles...

"Police prone to negligent discharges"

"Poorly trained officers unsafe"

I wish Glock was aggressively litigious enough to sue these morons for slander/libel.

This has to be the funniest newspaper quote in a while :)

Like so many things about Glock, information about the manual safety remains shielded from the public. And despite the benefits many see in the feature, no agency has the power to compel the manufacturer to add it to its guns.

Hmm... how about the PD buying a different gun that has a manual safety then? Me thinks this guy stopped short of grasping the concept of a free market...

Yeah, let's just get a court order for Glock to include a safety lever. And while we're at it, let's make Colt/Springfield etc. produce DAO 1911 from now on... it's all for the children.

Stupid is as stupid writes.

Regards,

Trooper

True statement: Glocks are prone to fire if someone accidently pulls the trigger. They also fire when someone pulls the trigger on purpose. Quite reliably, in fact. Stupid gun doesn't know the difference. Bad gun!

As facedown said... anti-gun nonsense.

Training, people. Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Autos aren't unloaded until the round in the chamber is ejected. How hard is that to understand?

But somehow it's always the gun's fault. And the sheeple just eat this kind of BS up. Sorry, but this kind of crap really gets my shorts in a knot.

I'm better now

My glock must be weird. When I lay it down there's no loaded chamber indicator, when I pick it up there is a loaded chamber indicator. Another thing is when I lay it down, there's no manual safety. When I pick it up it has an automatic safety.

Go figure.

The gun has no manual safety to prevent it from firing if the trigger is accidentally pulled. In fact, the gun's safety features -- extremely effective in preventing discharges if the gun is dropped or hit -- automatically are turned off every time the trigger is depressed.

Criminy, I've never read anything dumber than THAT!

Are these guys complete and utter oxygen pirates? It's the gun's job to fire if you depress the trigger. If one can't even remember not to depress the trigger when the gun is loaded (and check if the gun is unloaded if you want to do some dry-firing first), do NOT even touch a goddamn gun, or, which would serve the human gene pool much better, load a gun, and then do the "asthma spray" trick and press the trigger.

Voila, instant improvement of the human genes!

You poor foolish people …..

Surely you must understand that urban newspaper writers know more about guns then professionals (a word they use often) at the police department do. It is a documented fact that more major police departments as well as state and federal law enforcement agencies use Glock pistols then any other single brand, but compared to self-appointed media experts, these cops know nothing.

The solution to this is of course another law, requiring the law enforcement community to use those makes and models that meet the high standards that newspapers seek to impose on the rest of us. But for some reason those dumb legislators keep exempting the police when they pass these “common sense safety laws.â€

If you really want to do something constructive, write the “Detroit News†and DEMAND they advocate that all police agencies operating in Detroit be required to carry sidearms with loaded-chamber indicators and magazine disconectors, and get rid of any of those awful Glock’s that they might be using now. This nonsense of letting them pick what they think is best must be stopped!

Remember, it’s for the children …..

Glocks are poorly suited to Police work. They are ment for people who know what they are doing.

YAWN...

A gun fires when you stick your finger in the trigger well and move it rearward..

Wake me up when there is news...
